Despite building the Ute on the longer 3009mm version of the VE Commodore wheelbase, Holden has said the tray area on the VE is only fractionally larger than before despite a significant increase in the wheel-base, but says it is better-shaped. The Ute also has a lower payload capacity than before, as little as 508kg on some models. According to Holden's own guidelines, this 'maximum payload' capacity includes all non-standard items, including occupants.
    Fuck me.

I own a 1979 Suzuki 4X4 track back that weighs 810kg and has 41hp, it can legally carry about the same amount.

            $21990, Brand New 4X2 Hilux.

Higher payload then Commy, Bigger tray/tub, higher towing capacity, far more comfortable.

Downsides, the 4cylinder isnt a performance engine, and there is no intermittent wipers.

T5 is a piece of shit, or at least that's what others seem to think. Whilst it does feel like you're driving a tractor as standard, the fitment of a billet shifter went a long way to improving mine. They can only handle around 300-330rwkw, mines at the lower end of that region (and has been for 18 months or so) and shows no signs of dying - even after numerous runs at the strip, and roll ons, etc.

i have done alot of renovations at my house and always borrowed a hilux 2wd tipper ute. it was unreal. didnt drive the best but was comfortable and the tipper option is great at the dump. no need to look after it too much either as its just a workhorse.

In that case the XR6 tray back will do well. They go pretty hard stock so having a turbo would be fun for about a week before you start driving normally and realise you never have a need or opportunity to get it on boost.

near new 2wd diesel hilux with comfort springs isn't bad but the boring plastic interior would shit me after a while.

QFT - Our new work ute is just a EcoLPI non turbo XR6 coming from the Hilux's and Rodeo's we had it's like leaping forward 10-20 years in how nice it is to drive and be in.

More comfortable than a Falcadore??................. not sure if serious.

There's no comparison in every area of driving/comfort at all!

You're absolutely kidding yourself. I drive Hilux's for work and there is absolutely no comparison in comfort, options, seats, stereo, handling, performance, ride quality or even interior styling between a Hilux (especially 4x2) and any modern XR/SS ute. Not only do they not have have power windows or intermittent wipers... they don't have fucking carpet!

                                vz ss tonner?

i had a crappoytec version of the vz and it was brilliant (apart from the underwhelming performance of the alleged 175kw v6, rear gear change would have fixed it), had no problem towing 2t+ of car and trailer a couple of hundred k's to the track, handled well enough (cart sprung) for me to chase cunts through the hills from pakenham to woori yallock and wasnt a bad car for the couple of years i had it.
