If you can be stuffed calling Exhaust Bros up in Ballarat may be worth a shot. They can do the work (are cheap) and can also do the RWC. I can vouch for their workmanship too.

With regards to Club Rego - how does this work in Vic and how likely am I to be told off if I'm spotted driving during the week?
Club rego in Vic is good stuff. http://www.aomc.asn.au/cpsnewfaq.htm

        win!

the only thing about patching that shit up is that youll have to do it over again properly one day so its kinda a waste rjust because youre impatient and want that rw.

my advice is forget about reg for a while and fix this shit properly before it really takes over. its a nice car that will go up in value so it'll be worth it.

anyone that doesnt agree with me on this has rocks in their head

Your problem started once you took it to Sharp Performance.

Insurance job ? Leave it out the front of SmashedS15Blokes place in Richmond

this is correct - they have to take photos of it at therir place , on a hoist , engine number , body number , and speedo.

for motorbikes (not sure about cars) they need o take photos of brake pads -and if bike has drums -with wheel off and drum shoes showing..) and keep them all for x years .

if they issuea RWC failure its logged onto a computer .(as is a pass)

on the recheck they have to do all the photos agian .

'suppossedly' they (vic roads)can correlate a rwc failure against a rwc pass for the same vehichle by chaissis number etc. and presumeably fuck up the second place that did the pass (assuming its dodgy...)

and every x months the rwc test joint has to send in a list of passes and failures they have done.and vic roads can do an audit on the passes/failures etc

so now as shooter has found - if its a bit suspect if it will pass the garage will just tell you and not fill in the rwc paperwork (if you ask them niceley) - cause its a shit load of paperwork for them anyway.

as i read above -best outcome is for shooter to get it somewhere else (assuming merc didnt do a rwc failure cert)

you can drive it anytime -its by a logbook now - but you get a max of 90 days,(for $110a year) (ie midnight till 11.59 pm of same day - even drive interstate).(all states except those weirdo's in WA).

so if use is weekends then 90 days is usually enough - if for commuting then probably not
some clubs welcome you in -others make you wait ayear or so - cause now its in lots of people sign up for club - and are never seen again - but the club carrries the can for the responicbility of its members adhering to the permit rules.

look on vic roads website there is list of eligble clubs - even the' the scout assosiation is an eligble club

No failure cert, they didn't even look at the car past the first glance on the hoist.

Plan will be to wire wheel and undercoat it then take it somewhere else entirely. Should be a fun job.. =/

Bahaha, you have to join this one. They'll probably supply the swastika flags for the front on club runs etc.

I hope they dress like this:

maybe they're too busy reaming rich cunts with amg's, m3's and other more exotic european cars to care about your old merc so they hoisted it and told you it was fucked, no charge/no paperwork, fuck off and find someone else.

your first mistake was going to a sepcialist of the same make of car your taking in. never ever do that...

it should pass club rego, but look into what the individual club requires for club rego. ie my club requires you to be at 2 'events' a year (could be club meetings, helping out or racing etc). but would be a PITA if you have no interest in the club your joining just for the rego.

im with wildss.. fix it once, fix it properly, and ejoy the car for years, instead of having it in the back of your mind all the time. they probably share floorpan/sills etc from the sedans which you can pick up for slabs to get donor panels to keep it ridgy didge.

Yeah, I don't want to hit up clubs for club rego as it will be pretty clear I'm doing it to dodge RWC and rego! Not that I'm against being in a club, I'm starting to think this "do it once" business has some merit.

Stix - what are the floor and sills like in that coupe you're selling?!! Deliver to Melbourne for a slab?

All: I've been told the main area of concern is front left floor near the rail - a couple of "large" holes, the hole where the handbrake cable would be on a LHD car is rusty and there's a bit of rust along the rails.

I have no idea what this might cost - he recomended a panel shop in Collingwood - Allied Smash Repairs and said they'd look after me - ballpark on what this could run to?

depends how much work you want to do yourself?

how mechanically minded are you? they will charge heaps less if you get rid of the shit around the affected area (ie trims, carpet, seats, cables etc etc)

Can do. My panel work skills are extremely limited and I can't weld.

Have completed engine/diff swaps etc so can work out which end of the screwdriver to hold.. Will discuss with Allied as a starting point but if anyone here knows a good panel shop within range feel free to shout out!
