Wire wheel on angle grinder + rust converter + body sealer.
Do it on jack stands in the drive way. Anyone can do it.
Very messy work, but itll be cheap, and itll slow down the rust a bit too.

Not wanting to sound like a cunt but a PPI would have been worthwhile in this case.

I would be inclined to bite the bullet and get it done properly now. I can recommend Luxury Auto body in Hoddle Street Clifton Hill - do lots of euros and some older stuff too.

Re Sharp Perf they obviously did the right thing by you in this case. Friend had an E55 blow up after one of their tunes, then took his new E500 to them to play with - 50K later it cant keep up with a C63.

Mint shape. Love that type of coupe. Them and XJC's. Not sure which has larger dose of aids.

Cuntery aside - the seller actually was willing to offer with RWC (not knowing about the rust) and I smashed him on price to take it without. Granted he probably would have gotten the RWC quote and pulled it off the market, but lesson learned.

I wasn't aware of these new RWC laws - I haven't done one since the good old days of just paying Spiro $200 and reading him the numbers over the phone.

But yes, Sharp didn't bend me over and they like the car and hope I get it sorted. Said it drives nicer than the CLK320 or some such he had in next to it, testament that everything is sound except this floorpan.

I'll run around and get some quotes on the weekend and report back.

Love the XJC also - but it surely has more aids than W114?

Not sure, probably just different strains of aids.

I'd join the Merc club just for the access to the knowledge base and parts, the club rego thing is a rather useful bonus. I'd also probably get one of the club gurus to have a look, obviously if the holes are large it will require work but if someone who actually knows this model looks at it they would have a good idea of what's involved. And some of the owners in Merc clubs are stingy bastards who want perfection so they know what is a ripoff and what is a good price for the work.
BTW, don't feel too bad, I've seen an other wise mint W123 turn out to have a badly rusted chassis before. Looked OK by eye but when we started poking with the metal integrity testing device, long screw driver, it turned sour real quick. Shame because it was a REALLY nice car, even drove well.

Yeah got the welder years before it got taken off the road for a full rebuild. Failed a pink slip on drivers footwell rust so I got a welder and welded in a new floorpan section, wasn't my best work but it was much better than rust. Has loads of car and non car uses, one of the most useful tools ever.
