haha, we'll there you go, I guess cause there's lots more over there so stinkyness is worse etc. I've ordered NoPics to drive off immediately in diesel VW EOS pussbox from mine when it's backed up to the house, no warm up, bloody worse than the 2T jetski if I fire it up in the garage lol.

i would explain this more if i were at work and could drag up the report - im siting by the pool in the sun chilling out . Risk is a poor choice of word by WHO in this context given that quote. chemicals, mixtures etc are classified on the basis of hazard - not risk and on the basis of hazard diesel exhaust is classified as agent known to cause cancer on the basis of evidence in humans as is asbestos etc.

ah, well it's a fucking stupid way to try and say diesel exhaust is carciogenic. They were clearly playing the fear card not only likening it to arsenic, mustard gas and asbestos, but using the words "same risk"...

Unleaded exhaust is also carcinogenic, so its a bit of a moot point that diesel exhaust is too. There's no viable alternatives that are any better.

This diesel badness is the main reason why I won't have a diesel tow car, anyone who does is a pollution person

surely the ownership of a modern euro5 diesel is fine in the face of all the big and no so big diesel trucks on the roads

Depends if you look at it in terms of L/km/cargo mass

Diesel is far worse than petrol.
A diesel engine produces between 10 and 50 times more Nitrogen oxide than a petrol engine, the lesser figure is even when theres a DPF and Urea injection.

NOx reacts with ammonia, moisture, and other compounds to form nitric acid vapor and related particles. Small particles can penetrate deeply into sensitive lung tissue and damage it, causing premature death in extreme cases. Inhalation of such particles may cause or worsen respiratory diseases such as emphysema, bronchitis it may also aggravate existing heart disease.[7]

NOx reacts with volatile organic compounds in the presence of sunlight to form Ozone. Ozone can cause adverse effects such as damage to lung tissue and reduction in lung function mostly in susceptible populations (children, elderly, asthmatics). Ozone can be transported by wind currents and cause health impacts far from the original sources. The American Lung Association estimates that nearly 50 percent of United States inhabitants live in counties that are not in ozone compliance.[8]

NOx destroys ozone in the stratosphere.[9] Ozone in the stratosphere absorbs ultraviolet light, which is potentially damaging to life on earth.[10] NOx from combustion sources does not reach the stratosphere; instead, NOx is formed in the stratosphere from photolysis of nitrous oxide.[9]

NOx also readily reacts with common organic chemicals, and even ozone, to form a wide variety of toxic products: nitroarenes, nitrosamines and also the nitrate radical some of which may cause biological mutations. Recently another pathway, via NOx, to ozone has been found that predominantly occurs in coastal areas via formation of nitryl chloride when NOx comes into contact with salt mist.[11]
Ive said before that diesel engines in passenger vehicles will be gone within ten years. Look at some of the petrol hybrids coming from Europe, under 2L/100km is on the cards.
It costs alot more money and effort to get a diesel engine clean, than to make a petrol engine more efficient.

but but less CO2 ........... don't you know CO2 is the bad boy right......... tax that shit New diesels (DPF's etc) are way better than the old, which are in some measurements 100's of time worse than cars, but for the stuff that gives ya baby an extra leg, diesel's still the best choice.

not sure about 50 times more. maybe 50% more...http://www.air-quality.org.uk/26.php
But NOx isn't carcinogenic anyway. It certainly has health implications, but your argument has nothing to do with petrol emissions being any less carcinogenic.
Choose your poison - they're both bad, just in different ways. But if we didn't have diesel and had to use petrol for all combustion engines, we would probably already run out of fossil fuels! And really given the global warmists something to worry about!
