Then pay the wages for how ever long. Can cast up a fuck load all in the same time frame.

Also, I think it has a lot to do with packaging. Small short cast manifolds will fit just about anyway. Decent extractors are kind of vehicle specific.

The casties on the new LT1 look to be pretty decent for what they are.

Also, someone said it looks like an electric water pump?
It's not, the pully is just offset by the looks.

Looks the same as the starter on the Gen3?

It looks like the cam angle sensor and knock sensors are easily accessible on the timing cover. That's a bonus.

I hope the belt isn't V'd on both sides. Replacements would be slightly unique and therefore expensive...

Hopefully doesn't take after the LT1 as a failure.

Actually its got to do with mounting the cat as close to the ports as possible, so it can reach proper temp (and stay there) quicker

I know its a turbo engine, but look where they mount the cats on the M5 engine.

They called it the LT1 so they can work up to re-introducing the LT5:

I bet the gingerbeers are not happy about the engine being heavier than the Gen 4. It shows how hard it is to meet new emission requirements.
                    Piston crown looks interesting.
How do you rebore a block with cast-in iron liners but an alloy deck? Where is the transition from iron to alloy?

Great engine, unfortunately 95% of gen5 engines will be installed in trucks.

US national average gasoline prices today:
                    Regular $3.625 Premium $3.998 Diesel $3.777

Premium is over $1 per litre (!) and regular is not far away. It will kill v8 truck sales when it gets over the $4/gallon psychological barrier. The last (and only) time gasoline was over $4/gallon
was in 2008, and it pushed GM over the edge into brankruptcy.

The result of all this, according to Chevy, is a naturally aspirated engine comparable to some of the top turbo engines on the market. Pulling no punches, Chevy takes aim at BMW. The Bavarians’ 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 produces 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque while weighing 503 pounds and standing 29.6 inches high. The new LT1, by contrast, puts down its estimated 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque while weighing only 465 pounds and standing just 25.3 inches tall.
I wonder if this will be shoved in the Commodore when it is exported to the USA?

I know with the LS blocks you can't really bore them out a great deal/if at all.

I'd still expect a downsized version for Commodore (and Camaro?) duty, and this will be what HSV gets - if history is any guide. You'd expect the Corvette to have this engine exclusively for a year or two before it goes into any other GM product anyway.

I wonder if they've found away to have cylinder deactivation and manual transmission together yet? Vibrations were the problem - the auto box acts as a damper whereas the manual doesn't, or so I read.

Chevy went to such great length to minimize the engine’s weight. In fact, this 6.2-liter engine weighs just 465 lbs and is 25.3 inches tall. To put that into perspective, the ultra-powerful BMW 4.4-liter V-8 is mammoth when compared to the LT1, measuring 29.6 inches tall and weighing 503 lbs. To boot, the 4.4-liter powerplant falls 50 horsepower short of GM’s new LT1 engine. This gives the LT1 6.2-liter a 1.033-pound-per-horsepower to 1.257-pound-per-horsepower victory over the fame Bimmer engine.

Say what you want about pushrods Im sure the engineers appreciate lighter shorter more powerful engines.

The N/A Coyote is a bit lighter at 444 lbs. I imagine the FPV variant with a blower would be a fair wack heavier though
