I'm pretty sure that was the QLD law/rules when I got my licence in QLD about 19 years ago. So I don't think it's new here.Originally posted by wildss View Postwell fuck me, i had nfi we had that here too. i wonder how long its been in place for because 14 years ago when i did my test there was no mention of it

its always been there in NSW, but with "where practical" as the kicker...
but ffs, its like any intersection, you HAVE to declare what you're trying to achieve before you enterOriginally posted by myshortyboombaI've had many gauges in cars. I always found the conrods react faster than a gauge.
you can always hear them when they break and they stop the engine immediately so you can't do any more damage.

Because you are turning a corner, so just like turning left around a corner you need to indicate.Originally posted by wildss View PostBut why the need to indicate left when exiting a r bout? It's retired in so many ways
I had given thought to how it would be if the rules changed so that you weren't allowed to indicate. Not sure if it'd be better or worse.

If you're indicating left it's letting people at the next road know that it's safe to enter the roundabout because you'll be exiting before you get to them. If you're not indicating it means you're going straight through. If you're indicating right it means you're continuing around. It lets other people know your intentions and helps traffic flow.Originally posted by wildss View PostBut why the need to indicate left when exiting a r bout? Yeh but what is the difference between the two in bold above. That's the correct (mirrored) way in belgium. If i want to go left on the roundabout (3rd exit) it's the law to not indicate on approach, not indicate on the roundabout, and only indicate when taking the exit. Every other way is an offense.Originally posted by spunkrat View PostI had the opposite yesterday. Bloke in a Falcoon was turning right, didn't bother to indicate right though, but indicated left when exiting.Originally posted by tim510More rabbit less turtle!

It's the difference between "this is what I am doing, I am letting you know what I am doing" and "I've got NFI in general, specifically I don't ever use blinkers I'm too busy texting".Originally posted by Uncle Arthur View PostYeh but what is the difference between the two in bold above. If at a simple X-intersection roundabout you don't indicate while continuing 'round the roundabout, then someone waiting at Exit 2 doesn't know whether you're a numpty that won't ever use blinkers & is getting off before them, or if you're someone who's decided they're not using the right blinker (because using it & not using it is the same) and you're getting off at Exit 3.
Of course its mostly about politeness & letting others know what you're doing; the reality is you'd be an idiot to just trust anyone's indicators and not instead observe where they're looking &/or wait 'til their car starts to exit the roundabout ... I doubt anyone here who doesn't has 6+ crashes a year actually trusts any other road user.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Indicators, perhaps ironically, are an indication of what you are going to do, not what you are doing.

In addition to the above, indicating is not asking, it is telling.Pest Control - Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich and South West QLD PF discounts apply.
