The nopics has this in her BMW X3 30d and it takes some getting used to. Now that I'm used to it I don't mind it - it starts quickly when you start to lift your foot of the brake and its ready to go by the time you press the accelerator.

Must help with the fuel consumption as they only use 6.0l/100km and go 0-100 in 6.2s. Drives really well with this engine and 8 speed gearbox.

Can't stand this stop/start shit, all our work cars have it now, the dumbest so far was new Ford Focus 1.2L Diesel "Econetic" with a manual, absolutely hopeless in heavy traffic. My nomination for Worst Car 2012.

very important for a high end brand diesel car that sounds like a tractor, BMW and AUDI would have to come close to the noisiest diesels around for German High end brand. Benzes are the quietest of the lot.

It'll be because they want to make it illegal to disable a fuel-efficiency measure.
It makes sense from an ideological standpoint, but I imagine there are also fuel-efficiency concessions &/or CAFE regulations involved as well.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Basically yes. Lots of govercunts subsidise road tax based on carbon emissions. That and not wanting to use more fuel and create more emissions than they have to I guess.

I know that we were engineering cars for 2013 that had the Eco off button deleted for NAS spec but not sure when the legislation kicks/ed in.

If it's anything like my XR5 (or VWs) it switches the litres per hour while stationary (not L/100)
The stationary figure is L/hour sorry forgot to mention that on cold start it'd be as high as 4.5-6.5L/hour
