Big issue Marco is can you fit into half the cars mentioned? An older fullsize Ford or Holden would be a more sensible option then something smaller. Even an early Commodore could end up uncomfortably small, while you could probably fit into the smaller cars you really want to be comfortable in it otherwise you won't enjoy owning it. And the whole purpose of the exercise is to enjoy the car. What I would do is buy a garden shed to stick the shit from the garage in, knock down the wall and buy a nice VH Commodore or WB statesman, although your budget probably won't stretch that far.

Suzuki Sierra, Vitara, FJ40 Toyota or SWB GQ and get into wheeling? GQs are expensive to modify though, Sierras are stupid cheap to do up.
A Pug 205 GTi or a 306 of some description would be awesome.
A Type 3 is the ultimate combination of looking cool, aftermarket support, ease of working on, slightly oddball (in a cool way) and massive knowledge/information resources.
If you can replace a lightbulb, you can probably rebuild a VW motor.Originally posted by Bob Vegana. They strike me as a total piece of shit.
So definitely right up my alley.

Quick question for the Escort anoraks, who got the 2 door RS2000s? The parent's of a kid I went to school with had a 2 door RS2000, droop snoot Scheel seats and 4 spoke alloys. I recall my uncle, ex Brian Wood Ford sales man, mentioning we never got the 2 doors. This was the early 1980s, kid's parents were kiwis if that helps.

They definitely sold 'em here, moderately commonly too.Originally posted by irsa76 View PostQuick question for the Escort anoraks, who got the 2 door RS2000s? The rare RS2000's were the 25-odd German made ones they imported in '75 (*edit* '76), don't think they had the plastic nose but they did have a lot of Ford Motorsport stuff fitted. Moderately sure the intention for those was racing.Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Yeh I had a 2-door RS, the Sierra box is a good swap for the extra cog, van leaf swap for the rear. Fun to drive but slow unless you turbo them. Scheel seats were decent but that was about the limit of comfort, no aircon. Absolutely no limit to aftermarket parts, you could completely re-engineer the whole car out of stuff from the UK if you wanted to, would cost a mint though.
I had mine for about 10 years, sold it for $5k, more than what it paid for it

Hah, actually just had this up thinking about the old escort I passed up - http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/...AD-972867&Cr=3
Though mine was the earlier square front and a ghia from memory.
Was wondering what they'd be like, they've certainly appreciated in value since I last looked.
One above seems a bit of a dunger for the $.
