Big issue Marco is can you fit into half the cars mentioned? An older fullsize Ford or Holden would be a more sensible option then something smaller. Even an early Commodore could end up uncomfortably small, while you could probably fit into the smaller cars you really want to be comfortable in it otherwise you won't enjoy owning it. And the whole purpose of the exercise is to enjoy the car. What I would do is buy a garden shed to stick the shit from the garage in, knock down the wall and buy a nice VH Commodore or WB statesman, although your budget probably won't stretch that far.

Probably won't fit in just about anything old. I think you're right about early Commodores in that I have a vague memory that I sat in a VH once and I was pushed for legroom. Might see if I can find one to try again. Not even that sure I want one anymore.

The "magic number" for legroom for me is 62cm throttle pedal to edge of seat. 60 at a pinch. Much less than that and my ankle aches after a few minutes of driving. Wheels used to provide this measurement in road tests and the only older cars that get anywhere near that number are BMWs. Most other stuff is closer to 50cm - move your driver's seat forward 10-12cm from its usual comfortable position and see how you go . It's only in the last five or so years that carmakers have realised tall people buy their cars and started to have seat rails that go further back.

Don't touch an early RX7 then.
I had my race seat on stock rails but about as low as I could go and my helmet would still bang the door frame. Plus both the 1st and 2nd gen RX7's have a stupid seat rail arrangement for the drivers side making aftermarket seating difficult to manage.

Get a 1990 Daihatsu Charade. Find a Cheap Daihatsu Applause, and transfer Motor, and 4 wheel disc Brakes, into the Charade.
All is a Simple Bolt in Job... New Cam, Cheap Chinese Turbo. KYB Shocks, Whiteline Sways.... = Awesome run about.

A mate has a 1st generation 3 series coupe as a lawn ornament in his backyard. Body is good (was painted by previous owner), has a 2nd generation 3 series motor in it, will crank but not fire, so would need some track and trace on wiring but potentially could be a reasonable project.

Seems relatively roomy for taller drivers compared to other things about the same age.
