I remember seeing a shit hot mini clubman basically ready to race for 9k or something like that on eBay. If you when up to that sort of money you'd have so many more options.

Let me see if I can find it.

    edit found it

That's basically the choice at this point, after two and a bit months of looking into this daily.
Get the tidy commodore. Even if you don't get a v8, you can make the 202 go hard for not much cash. Suspension is also easy. They are a much smaller and more direct car than a VE, so will not feel anything like your daily. Will also crap over a beetle in every possible respect, save hipster value - you ain't no stinkin' hipster are you son?

Buy the best beetle you can find - if 6-7K buys one that you only have to tinker with, its money well spent imo.

It is a pretty different driving experience marco... If I had the time, space and cash, I'd be keen as getting my old pos going again for some 13's style shits'n. I get that some dudes have the beetle rush (I don't, they seem pretty compromised) but you have taken a couple for drives yeh? Because you'll need a soft spot for old, cramped, noisy and bad handling.

                Don't wanna be this dude...

Engine rebuild is a piece of piss and will cost about a grand. http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/...D-1085611&Cr=3

Yeah, I've driven four bugs to date and didn't want to give them back, so I'm happy with the driving experience. One of the pluses of them is that unlike eleventy billion pre-00s cars I could name, I can get behind the wheel pretty comfortably. The yellow one from yesterday was the best, so I think the replacement seat that was in it might have been mounted further back. But - not for $5500.

                              yup low-ball away.
people with old cars don't generally get close to what they're asking for.

no one pays asking price - you low ball and say "cash today with no fucking around" and most people will go with it because no one wants to waste there own time.
