Yup. Be interested to know what's going on with the sump needing replacement though, and whether that's the sump itself ($500+ on Pelican) or just the gasket (cheap).Originally posted by Aaron View Post
Oh and nice work whoever on the thread title change, amazed it took this long. If you think you're frustrated with how this is going...

in all seriousness, after reading a bit about you in 'guys we need to talk' - isnt this an opportunity to break out of the mould of thinking of reasons why Not to do - and just do it - for better or worse.Originally posted by Marco_VESS View PostYup. the financial implications arent really all that much-as you could sell it for what (or near ) what you pay for it

Looking at the ad now. Very, very ugly but interesting at the same time if that makes any sense. Dunno that it fits the simple etc criteria all that well?
Hmm, out of nowhere an SMS from the owner of one of the bugs I looked at a few weeks ago asking if I'm still interested. Time for a second visit and a lowball.

even if it needs a sump, isn't it a 4 cylinder an audi/VW engine? i'm sure theres lots of them at euro wreckers and a sump won't be that expensiveOriginally posted by Marco_VESS View PostYup. Yep, absolutely. This whole caper is in part about getting out of the "I can't do that..." mindset and getting on to some stuff I actually want to do. Needs less navel gazing and more actually doing.Originally posted by 9triton View Postin all seriousness, after reading a bit about you in 'guys we need to talk' - isnt this an opportunity to break out of the mould of thinking of reasons why Not to do - and just do it - for better or worse.

I'd bet it got jacked up on the sump and its beat up and cracked - or rusted out. Either way with basic tools and skills it'd be swappable and there's probably a cunt with a welder some tin and a hammer that could patch it up.
The seats need a retrim but to be honest you could chuck covers over them and be happy for a while then just drop a couple hungry to a trimmer to do them.
And yeah better than a bug

If you don't go look at this or get a mate to there is something wrong with you.Originally posted by Marco_VESS View PostAaron: wwas your comment inspired by this one? http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...k&sort=default
It seems to be everything you want. Can tinkle with small jobs while the bulk of the car seems rust free and mechanically sound. Its worth closer inspection and is much cooler than any of the bugs you looked at.
Work currently required includes:
- driver & passenger seat upholstery needs mending. The condition of the seats looked good, Just some re-stiching is in order at the joins.
- rear window tint brittle. Not urgent. Remove or re-tint later
- wiper/indicator switch needs to be replaced. Not a big deal. Just source a second hand one and have a play.
- sump needs to be replaced. Would find a used one cheap pretty easy and just fit
- odometer not working $25 fix
- CD/radio (after market) needs to be replaced. Not really worth mentioning, but the fact he does says something about the owner.
Thorough inspection is a must. ALL SERIOUS OFFERS CONSIDERED.
