Yeah, it's surprising but external size has almost no relationship on how well I fit, it's a total lucky dip with any given model. Most of my height is in my legs so it's got everything to do with seat travel and dashboard design.
Given I'm trying to buy a car here that I'll drive once or twice a week I don't need "drive to Perth" levels of comfort by any means but it's got to be better than "sore ankle after 10 mnutes" levels of comfort. The Type 3 isn't as good as the bug in this sense as the front wheel arches intrude badly into the cabin - the pedals in a Type 3 are way offset to the left to the point where the clutch pedal is close to the centreline of the car. The Beetle is far more "legs out in front".
I can't do 1st in a beetle comfortably without the gears tickets smacking my knee. I too am a long legged bugger. Keep in mind that many of these older cars have seat position adjustment that involves unbolting and moving the chair back. Also, if you want a cheap beetle to start on, my one had a top of engine fire so engine electrics and rubber gone. Will sell for 500.
I'm 6'3" with long legs (and a tight bum...) and one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven was a '68 (I think!) Leyland Mini S. It's amazing how well that thing was packaged..
Is the R series the model that was only made for six months or so, or was that the S series?
it was the R series. made just over 1000 of them. lucky to be 100 around these days.

I am honestly pleased as fuck to find advantages to being slightly shorter than average. Your problem, my smugness!
yep! and chances are even a concourse one will have rust .... somewhere...
rust... it sucks, but hey, if you want an old car it'll be there... somewhere...
I love type 3's. always wanted one with a PP 13b.
Aye. And $5k wont get you a concourse 120y at any rate. Till this thread, wasn't even aware of them and one with a little rotor would be just awesome...
No reserve selling due to many cars this is a great little bug . 1.5 lt motor in good order. the interior is new condition the paint job was a bare metal respray some years back, can drive away with a permint.
or on trailer as there is no reg or road, brakes are fair, electics all work, no oil leaks, glass is all good, new battery, the heater works, tyres are retreads. phone Neil 0421644453 come and have a look before you bid.
There is no way known to man a 120Y would ever be considered cool.
With a hole in the floor big enough to irrigate the interior while going sideways through a gravel quarry they were. They also taught me just how reliable a car could be. More so than a corona for example. The corona had some semblance of electronics and didn't like creeks for one...
And marco, hilarious as your procrastination is, fuck it. Bureaucrat jokes aside, there's been entertainment a plenty. At any rate, you've motivated others in here, myself included, to take on a side project to keep the hands busy and stop me spending buckets more on the ssv.
Wash your mouth out!

They have chrome bumpers. Almost nothing in the average car park has chrome bumpers... Even a busted arse old mustard 120y auto hatch could easily be the most interesting thing in a car park full of CommoFalcoCamMagnawhoredors.
