get a new numberplate stat - can you get black and whites in NSW?

Car looks neat, congrats. Are those headlight surrounds rare or have I just never looked at them before on a bug?

They'd be the standard chrome surrounds painted black, no?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

New plates will come soon anyway, needs to move to ACT rego. Headlight surrounds are standard ones painted black. It also has black rather than chrome trim on the bonnet and doors - maybe this was an 80s or 90s thing when chrome was out of fashion?

I'll get some more pics over h weekend and start its own thread so that this on can be laid to rest...at least until someone else decides to buy a $5k hobby car

The black trim could be how they were delineating the sporty models in the 70's ... :-)

Out of interest, where was yours made?
I think Volvo only started making cars here when VW moved out of the same factory in Melbs; just not sure when that was.

Incidentally, this was nowhere near as bad to drive down the freeway as I expected. Did 110 no dramas (100 up the steeper hills, admittedly) and none of the infamous Superbug front end vibrations at speed. Worst part was being blown around by crosswinds, and just the sheer amount of noise generated.

Mine was made at Clayton. Volvos, VWs and Datsuns were all made there at the same time until Nissan bought the factory outright from VW - in fact the last local VWs were technically Nissan-made.

Good to hear you made it Marco, I did my first highway trip the other day and was happy to report, like you, there were no nasty surprises! (aside from the need for another gear in the auto!)
