that 10 is sitting on the front lawn of a house on jabbanunnga ave inm ngunnawal. 10's and 8's are the most simple cars ever to pull apart, and there are heaps of things you can do with them (engine swaps from 16's/17's/12's/whatever, i know you said no engine swaps but seriously it's 4 bolts and you don't need an engine crane, just you and a mate can lift the motor out)

What about a suzuki vitara or older patrol? Tweak suspension and fit some bigger rubber, go wheeling/fishing/camping with your boys.

Renault is cool, easy to work on and fun to drive. Parts are not as easy to source as the VW but not overly hard to get from OS.
Beetle looks good, just daggy enough to enjoy working on it, but not so fucked as to make it a major project. Just check the back window area for rust or rust repairs. The C pillars were full of spray foam from factory and it held moisture which made them rust like a bastard. No rust there, life will be sweet.
MR2 is a prick to work on, and is the car P platers buy once they have crashed their R31's.

Beetle is the pick of the bunch so far.

                    - Fairly small - it needs to fit in the short side of my garage which is max 4700mm long. For reference, a VB-VH Commo is 4715mm (or I'd have one by now).
                    - Happy to consider oddballs - for example this got my attention last night (but probably too oddball): http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321026966...84.m1438.l2649
                    - Not something massively complex as I am a mechanical noob beyond anything requiring a screwdriver or a spanner. I can do some very basic bodywork but that's about it.
A SWB 4x4 fits all of those criteria.

It's a 1302, most people wouldn't pick the difference by looking at them so who cares? If you want to actually use it then the superbugs are much better. Must say it looks like the prices have dropped to more sensible levels, Dimmo ain't the cheapest bloke on earth either!

BTW, who the hell thought a 1970/80s french car, and a Citroen at that, would be a good idea? Even I'm wary of the cunts of things and I love old Citroens, although as a sunny sunday arvo once a century car they would probably be fine. It's trying to figure out wtf they were smoking when they slapped them together that's got me worried.

Plus there's no way in hell he'd fit. It's not just headroom or legroom that could be problematic, the armrests & centre-console aren't designed for people over 5' tall that also have arms.

They're old & shit enough now that the fact they're a bit less shit than a non-Superbug doesn't matter ... they're still shit enough to be interesting. If Beetles interest you at all, of course ... I think I'd be more interested in a Mk1 Golf to be honest, but even then I think I'd prefer something Italian.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Early RX7's are a right giggle. Not sure on price.
