    You fucking kidding me bro?

Having owned both, they were mechanically pretty similar... Don't think there was any fuel tank revisions and almost every spare I bought was vn-vr... And hence throwing the vn part in just in case someone could tell me there was definitely a difference as opposed to pointing out a frigging thread title.

I thought these had DFI module problems (ignitor under coil packs) which gave similar symptoms, or was that just the early Moo's?

Sorry I was just being a cunt yea the vn and series 1 vp had what you described a fuel pump cut off switch when the relay or fuse blew the car would not crank but it was revised vp series 2 onwards.

I can't hear the fuel pump but will check injectors clicking too.

The coil packs are in pairs so you'd expect a 2 cylinder miss right?

            Cheers for the help.

It's not the packs that cause the problem with the dfi and engine stopping it is the module underneath I have a spare if you want it. But like I said start with crank angle sensor start simple first and also crank angle sensors are cheap.

Do you take the pump out from under the car? Above the diff? What a cunt.

I don't want to ruin this thread but you know that you are wasting your time trying to diagnose shit via the interwebs don't you Muz?

Spark, Fuel pressure, injector pulse etc.

That's obvious, the whole reason for this thread is to avoid going outside and getting his hands dirty. :D

Fuel pump from front of rank. Remove rear wheel then it's easy enough to get to.

Cold water on cas when it gives trouble is apparently a good way to troubleshoot it.

I am suggesting that you could diagnose the problem rather than replacing stuff.

If it has no fuel and there is power at pump then the pumps fucked so you replace it.

If it has no spark & injector pulse then the CAS is probably fucked.

If it has injector pulse but no spark then the DFI module is probably fucked.

If it just won't work at all then the Immobiliser might be fucked.

For me and the vn, it was, hah, just after i'd filled up so had to drain the fucking tank, so drained it, it was in a cunt of a spot near the diff and I got the last 5l on face and hair. Was chuffed.

We had racq and the guy diagnosed it in about 2 minutes. Ducked into supercheap just before it closed and doused myself with fuel like a champ. At least saved me the painful experience of paying llty$ at the cost of a funky fuel hair style the next 3 days.

My old VR V8 ute used to do the exact same thing when my brother owned it. He had absolutely everything replaced on the electrical side (ECU, dizzy, coil, etc...) but it still "just died" and at random. It was the fucking fuel pump that died. It'd be the first thing i'd be looking at.

if you want to check the pump, pull the relay and short out the "switched terminals" ie: pump runs flat out with ignition on. Then you can stick your head up under the boot and listen for runnage.

If its CAS sensor they supposedly do it when hot, a little crack or something opens up and fuck the sensor out. I once had similar issues to you with VS and lacking water at the time in bottled form (side of the road style) i disconnected and rerouted the windscreen washer to aim at the sensor to see if it would come good (it didnt, because it wasnt fucked)

Turned out to be fuel pump, filter was sad as well, Cunt of a job on the floor to weasel the pump assembly out and fuel pisses everywhere because the gasket for the assembly sits a bit below fuel line level, siphon that shit out first!
