Yep. Agreed you don't need anything special.

I've done about 5000km on some of the roughest roads in Australia (gulf/Strezlecki) trail in a 1700kg Valiant on cheapo tyres and never had a flat. Hole in the sump, but no flat.

If you are really concerned just let 5psi out of the tyres so they roll over sharp rocks better. But as others have said, no need for fancy tyres just to drive on dirt.

The roads out there aren't too bad so standard tyres will be fine. depending on where they are to the gas pipelines the roads may now be superhighways thanks to the construction traffic.

I drove a fair few roads out there just after the floods for a condition survey for one of the gas ppeline projects and the sealed roads ended up in worse general condition than the unsealed roads.

            Cheers,

The road is literally to their house and 2 neighboirs for 50km (they have quite a large cattle property)

I've had a two flat tyres on gravel roads with 60 profile tyres - Mt Porepunkah and between Tumut and the ACT. Neither are bad roads but they do have some large aggregate.
Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the end of the world?

                Just upgrade the car lol

Modern tyres are very strong construction, hell with a low profile tyres the tyre will just about hold it's shape without air in the tyre. I wouldn't worry about it. Unless it rains then you'll be farked either way and will need 4wd

If your worried chuck a full size spare in the back and leave it at that. The only time I've had issues with getting flats in a 2wd driving on rough dirt roads is when i've been stupid and slid sideways through a hole or rut and rolled the tyre off the rim. Just take it slow and easy, and pick a line to try and avoid the worst stuff.

Yeah often the rims will give out before the tyre does.

I'm picking you haven't priced run flats
You would also need a TPMS on the car, they can have zero pressure in them and look completely normal.

I am extremely dissapointed at the direction this thread could have taken, but didnt.

                        For shame PF, for shame.

i doubt their driveway will be any worse than gap creek road used to get after lots of rain

take a full size spare and a can of tyre goo

                          drive.

Strzelecki was a bloody 4 lane highway with dust! I wouldn't have called it a rough road at all...

Maybe in your fancy post 1980 chariot!

You're right, I was thinking more the sharp rocky bit after Innamincka. Was nasty.
