haha yeah I'll concur with that, we did most of that on light truck tyres with 55psi in them, was not ideal!!

There is no logic in this thread.

        Options:

        - Just drive a bit slower and take an extra spare (if you are that concerned)
        - buy a $1220 car 4x4 for the price of your run flats and use it 3 x per year
        - buy second set of shitty wheels for $300 on ebay and fit when doing this epic across australia voyage

Read the fine print on your run flats. They are not a miracle cure. You still have to replace a run flat if it gets a puncture and I think some recommend that you do not do more than 100 km on them. That will be another $305.

The biggest question at all, and quite frankly I am surprised that pf has not queried this, is what are 17's doing on a Liana in the first place?

Just write "A/T" on the side of your current tyres when 1 km away from their house in liquid paper.

The cannon scrapes too much with 16's?

Joel Sommerfeld/Sommerfield from Sideways automotive built it as a showcar to advertise his skills as a failed drug dealer?

OP, how do you plan on protecting the neons when on the dirt roads?

Should wrap them in Unit/Playboy/Rockstar/Mother and carbon fibre stickers.

It's an sx4 liana, 17" are standard for the 2wd version. 16"'s for awd version.

For the Pirelli run flats, car is smoother and quieter now since changing from kuhmo's.

We regularly do 80km treks through corrugated to buggery dirt tracks to our fishing beaches, in 2wd hatch back turds. While it may not be a comfortable drive we are still yet to puncture a tire

Ahhaa, one of my run flats wasn't even pumped up at the tyre shop. Drove fine until I realised it being a bit low. Looked like a normal tyre with 20psi I it. With 0.

The reason I am a pussy is that I have a 3 week old and will be driving on Xmas day or Boxing Day. No Racq or even petrol stations open in route other than gympie.

This. I used to take my m3 down there daily, just take it slow and it was right. Except from time to time you'd get some clown sitting behind you honking, so i'd put up with it for a while, then if they pissed me off, traction control off, drop a gear, nail it. they tended to back off after that.

What the hell has carting around a baby got to do with anything? Sure take some water, take a spare, take a few handy tools. Getting all excited about a flat cos you are doing a 100 odd ks of dirt is ridiculous.

Which reminds me, I love the knob heads who try to change a tyre on the edge of a 3 lane hiway when theres an obvious and easy to see proper lay by 100 metres up the road. Are folk taught that the flat tyred wheel will explode or something if you creep along an extra 100 yeards to a safe spot....

Breaking down in the middle of nowhere is more of a concern. Mind you a cellphone is a handy thing, and a lot of slightly braver people back in the day managed without just fine.

Christmas? Its a one or two day holiday. Sheesh, what is it with all the xmas crazy BS.

Most stores are open again Boxing Day.

                              AH.

PS. Avoid the pot holes and you will be fine. Drive thru them and you will probably be fine too unless you are sporting 40 series rubber or something slimmer.

I've lived on a rarely maintained gravel/dirt road for 8 years and we've never had a flat tyre. It's a non issue, no one out here runs 4wd/LT tyres on their 2wd cars and our roads are as bad as anywhere.

If it's really eating you up inside, just get a full size spare.
Or carry a 2nd spare. Or a tyre repair kit. Sounds like you'll need more spares for your 90km trip than i'll take up the Cape next year :D
