The Skyactiv diesel is nothing out of the ordinary. It's not the engineering marvel Mazda tries to paint it as

The DSG problems seem to centre on the mechatronics unit.
You mean you want a larger sample size then the people posting in here saying they know of broken ones/have had to fix broken ones/had broken ones? Or a larger sample size then a court action in the US forcing VW to extend warranties on the trans? Seems to indicate there is serious problem, doesnt matter how rose-tinted the glasses you look through are.

Funniest part in all this is I saw a Passat lunch one right infront of me on the way home from work last night. Take off from lights, big flare of revs....pull over. Saw said Passat getting picked up by a towie on the way to the nopics house :rotflol:

So far so good though, 18 months old / 22k kms.

      tick...tick....tick...tick..

Everybody claimed that the 118TSI Golfs were the devil too but mine never had an issue in the 2yrs I owned it... *shrug*

Anyway Shane, dump the thing at the dealers and let them sort it out under warranty. Probably the mechatronics unit, in any case they should be fixing it free of charge...
Maybe its the way people drive them? Im pretty sure my cuz never uses the paddles, maybe it needs some useage?

I dont think its still under warranty as its 2 years old.

Had 4 Audis in the past 8yrs. The first DSG box had 2nd gear go and Audi replaced with a new one and the car went on to do 90,000km. Second one did 90,000km and only issues we had was a broken throttle sensor. Nopics Q7 has 60,000km on it so far with no issues. My modded S3 is at 80,000km and the clutches are fkd partly due to me and partly due to the way the gearbox behaves.

I think leaving it in auto will cause more damage to the clutch packs. 6th gear @ 50km/h is insane but it's how they get the fuel usage so low. The problem with auto mode is i've had many times where i put my boot into it but for some whacked reason the gearbox has decided to change gears so all i get is a slipping clutch for a few seconds. I use the paddles 90% of the time now and i never get that problem.

The issues VW were having with some of the MKVI Golf's, the Dealers told the owners to use the paddles and stay out of auto mode.

We had a clutch replaced in our DSG (Polo Gti). Nothing lunched, just a complaint from the no-pics about the car shuddering away from low speed corners. Safe to say she never uses the paddles.

Why do you guys put up with that shit? Fucking lol @ buying a new car, and accepting that it will fuck out within 100,000km.

^ This.....the kind of buyer who buys a 35k car and expects it to fuck up is the VW target market to a T.

Coincidentally, this got posted on a Porka forum just now:
spoke to a mate this afternoon who has an Audi A4 diesel auto (3.5 years old), just out of warranty. The transmission gave way today - 22k to repair! He has left it with Audi Brighton to see what they can do, most likely will be written off.

one would think an 3.5yr old A4 diesel is well over $22k on carsales?

How do you get insurance to write off a car with a mechanical fault?

I spose it would be a tradeoff between spending $22k and (say) selling the car for $30k, versus scrapping/parting the car for $8k.

...or pushing the thing off a cliff, as suggested above and getting $30k :D

Dunno, but I guy I know put a claim in for his Prado's fuel system that shit itself and it was accepted. Saved nearly $8k.
