    Registering stolen & recovered bike?

Is it possible to register a bike that has been stolen & recovered & come from another state to SA, has had the chassis & engine numbers ground off, but does have previous owner history including details of theft & recovery?

I would guess it'd be a tricky one, but if history can be proven would it be likely to be able to apply for a new engine & chassis number & re-register?

Withouut the numbers I'd think it'd be a tough one. Probably easier to register it in it's current state prior to bringing it across.
Randy De Puniet has had more crashes than any other rider in the history of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

Surrogate numbers can be issued in QLD, surely it is the same in other states

Yeah, numbers can be issued here no probs, but coming from another state with the numbers ground off is what I'm worried about, especially given the bike - stupid cheap harley.

Most likely selling my RG tomorow & was aiming to buy a 2011/2012 sportster 48 some time next year, but found this thing so cheap it's hard to pass it up, even just to fix it up & register it, ride it for a bit & sell it to get some more $$ together for the 48.

does the sa's version of the rta have a tech enquiry hotline ? maybe look on the website ? i reckon they'd probably give you better info. i've had a couple of cars come in without engine numbers and the forensic people came out and looked for one then gave the ok for a new number.

I think they can X-ray for the old numbers as the metal memory goes deeper than just the top level with stamping. If you have all the history and the old numbers I'm sure the identity could be proven.

Calling RTA cunts, and speaking to someone who actually knows their shit, would be the best bet.

The other thing to consider is resale. Lots of people will steer clear of potential hassle as soon as they see history like that

Xray to find out the numbers then mill the motor and chassis and restamp them?

Nah, fuck it, not worth the hassle for a bike that'd only be worth about $6k anyway - I guess that's why it's so cheap.

May look at buying a stat write off & a kraft tech frame & building something instead.
