All drink drivers to get alcohol interlock devices in Vic - plan

Let's not forget 0.08 used to be the national limit and still is many places in the world. Hardly rolling drunk is it. High level drink drivers should be punished to the full extent of the law, but I'd like to see the statistics that prove you are a substantial danger to society at 0.08. More so than say a 1/2 blind grandma driving an unroadworthy vehicle built in the 50's.The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.

I think the only way it would work, is if ALL vehicles in existence had one fitted. That's not possible, so the idea is flawed. However; I do think it has merit.
Of all the things to do in a car, drink driving really has to be the dumbest. Arguable for borderline offences where you're close to 0.05, and sure some people are totally functional at 0.05, while others aren't, but for the seriously blotto (whatever the limit may be) it's just downright dangerous & stupid. If we have the technology that prevents people from driving whilst drunk, it can only be a good thing.
It's not like speeding where you can just blat past someone at 20km over the limit, then back down to the limit (which is apparently safe, but that's another argument); when you're drunk, you're drunk and you shouldn't be driving.
I would have zero problem with having a device fitted to my car as OEM equipment. The only thing i'd bitch about is the cost/maintenance, and if the thing ever played up. Otherwise I have no issue as I never drink then drive. Fuck, I'll have 2 beers at a work lunch, finish my last beer at say 2pm, then when I get in the car at 5pm I'm thinking 'shit, will I blow over?', so I always avoid driving after drinking. Especially the morning after a big night.

So what if it was decided that these would be fitted to all vehicles and the national limit be reduced to 0.01? Would that be okay too?The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.

I should have known PF could beat one
EDIT - or there's one REALLY good strategy to beat one
don't drink and drive, pretty simple stuffOriginally posted by choppoLooking forward videos of OP doing the chicken dance in drag with bananas up the arse and other fruit around the face in gay hypnotherapist rape dungeon

Tend to agree. At 0.08 (the old limit) I'm far from pissed - I often have half a dozen at the local club and test myself when leaving, even though I always get my wife to drive. Invariably I'm between the limit and .10.Originally posted by Cal View PostMeh I reckon everyone should be entitled to one error of judgement without having to spend thousands having one of these stupid fucking things fitted to their car. When I say error of judgement I mean 0.05 - 0.10. That's how it works in Queensland.
I can understand how people get done for low range, particularly the next day. But I reckon once you've been caught once you'd have to be a deadset fucking idiot to do it again...
My rule is two beers then soft drinks / water if I'm driving. Don't even bother trying the "one drink per hour" thing just in case. Pretty simple...
Also agree with confiscating drunk drivers cars - who is more likely to kill / injure someone - old mate who's sober and chirping second off the lights or some high range fucktard coming home from the RSL club with a gutful of piss ? I think our laws are retarded in this case...The older i get, the better i was...

I agree with this too. The proposal is complete overkill for a first time low range offence.Originally posted by Cal View PostMeh I reckon everyone should be entitled to one error of judgement without having to spend thousands having one of these stupid fucking things fitted to their car. Problem is, like everything in this fucking country these day, it will happen. Once it's passed in Victoria the rest of the country will follow. The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.

So what happens with these things when they want a confirmation test? Does the driver have to stop to do the test? If so what happens if they are on a freeway or stuck in slow moving traffic and there is no opportunity to get off the road? Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the end of the world?

I was caught twice within a 5 year period and had to have an interlock fitted to my car for a 12 month period. On both occasions, I expected to blow under 0.05 when I went through the RBT as I felt fine. I blew .094 and then a few years later, .084. Some might call that poor judgement, but in many cases like this, it's bad luck. The 12 month disqualification cost me $100-150K in potential earnings and even worse, nearly cost me my business. It is the cunts that blow the breathometer off the fucking charts (.15 and above) who knowingly drive pole-axed that should have their licenses torn in half for good. The penalties are too harsh for those who generally do the right thing but get caught out.
Fact of the matter is, the BAC limit should be 0.00 end of story. Having a 0.05 limit baits/tempts people into having a drink or two when the repercussions if you blow slightly over can completely destroy your livelihood. 12 month loss of license is bad enough, then there was my $700 fine plus $3K for the interlock. It's a double fucking whammy.
Basically, it goes off randomly within a 5-15 minute period after the vehicle has been started, and once again between 15 and 60 minutes. It gives you a 5 minute window of opportunity to successfully blow into the unit until an alarm goes off and then 'apparently', the car is meant to shut off. As you say, there are many occasions where you may be on a freeway and simply cannot pull over, or be stuck in the right hand lane during peak hour and there is no opportunity to 'pull over'. You can blow whilst moving but it's against the law.Originally posted by xbgs351 View PostSo what happens with these things when they want a confirmation test? Obviously you have never had one fitted to your car before. Live with it for 1 month and I guarantee your opinion will rapidly change.Originally posted by BundyBeej View PostI would have zero problem with having a device fitted to my car as OEM equipment..Mallala Motorsport Park - 1:11.71 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY85CK31if8

So the device itself is probably more dangerous than using a mobile phone or having a low range BAC. GreatOriginally posted by Race Spec View Post
