the thing is the punishment needs to suit the crime, as far as the law is concerned spinning your wheels taking off from a set of lights in your mates manual car in the wet, is the same as spinning your tyres to they pop. Both of them could get your car confiscated under the so called hoon laws.

I agree with you that the punishment needs to fit the crime. But i dont think its too likely that the Nanny State is ever going to pull its head out of this archaic black hole it is currently in. I dont know where .05 comes from, but it has to have some merit surely? Or perhaps its just going down like speed-limits and eventually it will hit 0. Which would be shit because theoretically a rum cake might push you over .01.

What i dont get, is that some people say they are fine at .06 so why should they suffer because someone else cant hold their drink? Why do you NEED to drink and drive? It does my head in. Do you have a disease where you need to consume alcohol before you drive or your junk explodes? Will your mates beat you up when you have a Sprite after work before you head home? Whats the deal?

How do you physically know the difference between .04 and .06 though? Without calibrated equipment its an imaginary line..

I lost some points a few years ago for blowing .058 - i had a couple beers over a couple hours, i honestly thought i was fine..
