    Old school cable throttle FTW
Throttle on a diesel? Do have any idea what the fuck you are talking about? Do you understand how a diesel engine is managed, particularly a modern common rail diesel?

There are a few reasons for the lag from putting your foot down to going in a modern diesel. As rj said, a large part of it is likely to be the transmission getting its shit together. The other part consists of the Vane actuator on the turbo positioning itself and actually making boost, and the engine management injecting diesel in a fashion that doesn't result in half the diesel ending up as soot in the DPF. Unlike a mechanically injected diesel, where you press the throttle and the fuel goes in, whether it can actually be burned usefully or not....

Notice how my opening sentence mentioned Diesels in particular, yet my second sentence mentioned 'most modern makes and models?
So in other words when I mentioned cable throttle, I wasnt necessarily refering to diesels.

The XR5 had torque limiting in first and second gear from factory, made it feel doughy, flash tune sorted that out.

If it is turbo then.... Geez. PSA explains all....

As for PSA, well the V6 diesel (Ford AJD-V6 / PSA DT17) used in the Jags, Range Rovers, Land Rovers, Territory, as well as Citroen whatevers has the PSA lineage & it's a rocking engine, so long as it's backed by the ZF tranny, not these DSG boxes...

I think Territory Diesels are a bit laggy aswell.

Well for full disclosure I've never driven a diesel Territory, but I have driven several diesel Jags and a RR Sport, with no lag...

It feels like it is most likely related to the traction/stability control programming. I should probably try giving it a go with that switched off to see if it makes any difference at all.

I know with the aurion there used to be a way to turn off it's traction control trickery (supposedly) by doing something with the ignition switch, brake pedal pumping ect. Would there be such trickery available for the pos ford?

stupid cunt, buy the unit - it's $400 for a vehicle you'll probably put at least 25000km on a year - who cares if its a work car.
