Thief Proofing a Trailer.

I too use this device plus wrapping the chan around jockey wheel . I guess it works as I still have the trailer. I also padlock the safety chain to the 4b as well as the D shackle.Originally posted by Southo View PostAll you are doing is slowing them down or making them move onto the next one..
If they REALLY want it, they will take it..
A towball / Hitch lock will stop them from towing it away, but not stopping them dragging onto a another trailer / tilt tray or just dragging it away from chaining it to another towbar etc..
A wheel lock with stop them dragging it away any great distance by another vehicle, but it can be dragged onto a tilt tray easy enough.
A Cable lock changed to something fixed will stop them physically taking it (until they cut the chain / cable)
.. when leaving mine in dodgy areas overnight, I just had a internal towball lock, (stopped it being attached to another towball)

then padlocked the saftey chain around the drawbar and jockey wheel (so it couldn't be raised) so it couldn't be used to drag it away...
and finally, had a chain and padlock through the side rail / gates / rear rail around something solid..

Arthur, on my car trailer i use one of those ^^^^^Originally posted by GreatWallGT500 View Post
It needs to be locked all the way in or "home" to be effective though.
Added deterent I use a padlock on the hitch lock.
AND, if leaving it in a shitty spot, I take a really strong Kryptonite cable lock (cble is maybe 5/8" thick, without the coating) and run it through wheels/chassis, around a fuckin tree or post/fence/other vehicle, just to make it a real cunt.
I figure if you make your harder than the next poor cunt's, you at least stand a chance.

Another vote for the last one in GreatWall's pics. Can be used when the trailer is on the car as well. Cheap and probably as good as anything else.
Won't stop someone with a spanner and spare hitch to bolt on.
You can only make other trailers look more inviting to steal. I achieved this by leaving mine in the open for the last 6 years and letting it rust :O

When someone tried to steal mine when it was parked in the street a few years ago they didn't even try to hook it up to the towball, just put a chain between towbar and a frame. Problem was shitty rusty landcruiser towbar was not as strong as the 17mm cable round the tree which they either didn't see or figured would break as they drove away.
Came out in the morning to find trailer a metre further down the street than normal, landcruiser towbar and bolts etc on the ground in front of it, and the cable now has a permanent kink in it where it pulled tight against the rails of the trailer.
In short, they didn't get it, lost a towbar and chains. Police said, if you are going to leave it in the open, keep a car on it, they don't want to be hauling a two ton plus thing around, they want the trailer, not the shit on it. So now it sits with a car on it most of the time with the same cable round the same tree.Radical SR3

Do what I do, anticipate the cunts are gunna knock off the one down the street before mine it's easier than pulling mine out of a steep driveway.
What's one of those tow ball lock things worth?BF XR6T - TE Sedan - 75 TX Coupe - Atlas SS - VF SS Redline

This is obviously assuming all your AUX outputs are doing something. Ie idle control, and the other does water spray, and the other updates your Instagram automatically etc.
