RZ recently finished that trip around Australia and also did a lot of off-roading in his. Even with the standard factory tyres on the completely standard car he was able to go pretty much everywhere the 'real' 4WD's went. About halfway through the trip he put some better tyres on and it was better again.
So based on his experience there's not a lot of problem off-roading them.

My brother has gone offroad (seriously) for over a year at least once fortnight with his. Driving with jeeps, hiluxes, patrols etc and is yet to be let down. I think a lot of people who dribble shit about no ifs and no diesel option are already at the stage where offroad experience and driving skill plays more part than the type of car.Originally posted by Billzilla View PostRZ recently finished that trip around Australia and also did a lot of off-roading in his. Im Part of a trip late next year thats driving almost 200km through pure scrub. Going with us are people with 40+ years of Bush experience and the group consists of a lifted prado with twin diff locks. A lifted diesel hilux. A 200 series. a diesel 80 series a lifted fj and a bull ccatcher. The fj is the least of our worries. At this stage its coming down to driver skill...
Pretty much you can listen to tossers dribble shit all day about diesel this patrol that but without specific experiences their opinions mean nothint...Originally posted by R_ZEEI've heard that they have gotten so good at it that you can't tell.....exept for the missing clit and I don't think 90% of the people here would bother looking for that anyway unless it unlocked an extra 10hp

This too. My old mans prado has 230k on th3 clock and has never had a problem. We've towed a 1.5 tonne trailor behind a 3 tonne loaded "sheilas" car and not had a problem..Originally posted by MRGREATWALLMAN View Postprados are good offroad, so theres no reason why these wouldnt be too.Originally posted by R_ZEEI've heard that they have gotten so good at it that you can't tell.....exept for the missing clit and I don't think 90% of the people here would bother looking for that anyway unless it unlocked an extra 10hp

Is that an achievable figure? what's it go up to when towing your average camper trailer?Originally posted by rj_astra View PostThe FJ is a creation for the US market... so no need for a diesel. Even diesel Jeeps were hard to get in the USA.
FJ now has 160L fuel capacity. Even at 20L/100km its going to get a fair way on a tank(s).
Official average fuel consumption is 11.5L/100km.
I like the look of them, but I really would prefer a diesel for economy..

14-16 is more realistic around town. No more than a petrol Hilux or Prado.Originally posted by Kyle View PostIs that an achievable figure? what's it go up to when towing your average camper trailer?

If it worries you that much, stick BBQ gas in it and enjoy.

we just bought a MY14 Mitsubishi Challenger.
Currently putting a 3 inch lift under it and (33inch) 285/70R17s Achilles Desert Hawk MT's
Brand new with leather and Black exterior.
Also no rear overhang like a Triton=win
Really capable vehicle and easier to fit huge tyres than the standard Hilux, Prado and FJ Cruiser(swb Prado)www.hackettsdiscounttyres.com.au for the best prices on the biggest brands!!
