Wrong. Yeah, HQ numbers were huge but they sold from what, '71 to '74 ? If you look at the VT from Sept '97 to mid 2000 it sold what, just over 300,000 ? Not a bad effort considering there was a lot more choice around by that time compared to the HQ...

Not as quick as the gerlytruk shit it doesn't.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

What are the Territory sales figures like? It's probably a more realistic picture of how the local Ford stuff is doing to combine Falcon and Territory sales.

              About 1200-1500/month

OK, so according to that graph in Forg's post, they're only selling 1000-ish Falcons a month? So they're selling more Territorys at the moment than Falcons?

                  April

The Toyota Prado held off the Ford Territory in the large SUV segment (1276 versus 1260), with the Holden Captiva 7 (1071) and Toyota Kluger (923) following close behind.
                  ..

Australia’s local manufacturers endured yet another painful month, with the most notable victim the Ford Falcon that hit rock bottom with its worst monthly sales figure in history (717).

Do youze guys see as many Territorys as youze used to?
Was thinking about it this morning, as I walked past about 5 of the old model & none of the new ones; sure you see them around (they're selling a few after all), but they've been out a fair while now and they just don't seem anywhere near as ubiquitous as they were this long after they were first released.
Nothing's been released since, which quite fills the same niche, has there? I guess the Korean soft-roaders have gone from OMFG We're Going To Die to being pretty-much up with all the others from elsewhere; but then they're not all that cheap either.

I see plenty of the Turbo diesel ones around.
                      If in doubt power out

Problem is selling 1200 Terrys a month isn't keeping the factory going. They probably need 100,000+ vehicles to be efficient.

In all this OMG Ford is closing, don't laugh I've seen more then a few comments on facebook thinking Ford is leaving Australia completely!, has anyone remembered Holden hasn't actually confirmed the Commodore will exist after 2016 either? Granted Holden also isn't saying they won't continue local production either, but the numbers at Holden must be looking pretty concerning as well. Remembering the US export program is a double edged sword, if it's too popular then the unions would force GM to transfer production to the US. If it fails then it's probably curtains for Holden as a producer in Australia, especially if we're forced to use a global platform that already is RHD.

Holden last year made a commitment to manufacture here until 2022. The only unknown is which car will be built alongside the Cruze.

What were the "terms" of the "commitment"?

Ford had also "committed" to manufacture here, saying you're committed is a moot point when you're drowning in red ink because the vehicle you produce isn't selling.
