before you go and get assessment of damage - well before you give him the list - you ideally want him or his worker to ADMIT to what they did.

ie: we thrashed it and hit gutter. or we hit gutter doing xyz. what ever they admit, challenge them to more cause they will likely sugar coat it.

then, once you have admission to guilt/fault/act - then you can attribute damage.

if your lotus experts say steering bent, valves burnt, synchro mashed - say - and then they say, no way, "we hit gutter at 30km/h and didn't thrash it" you'll get into argument over the event.

get them to admit to what they did first.

Of course not, or you've never had a car worth more than a few cases of beer then.
No… I'm just a dude that works on cars everyday and knows they are purely a sum of their parts, anything can be fixed, as long as its done properly

Getting a car stolen and thrashed to death is a lot different to what happened to you.

Anyway I'll stop because I'm just being a cunt :D I'm only being 'that guy' for the sake of some perspective. I think you're taking the right approach in dealing with old mate though

I'd like the workshop that has my car to take it for a drive without my permission, would mean they have gotten off their arse and actually started doing the work that was supposed to only be 2 weeks worth, 3 months ago.

This is the Internet mate. It's very important that you use the correct terminology. And when I say correct I mean some other random cunts interpretation of what is the right way.

I must be a stupid cunt too because I knew exactly what you meant :D

Forg, you are probably right. I'll calm down in a few days and it won't seem so bad.

Cplus, ideally yes this would be best. But not achievable. I wasn't able to get any admission of guilt, he hasn't given me any explanation. Instead, he's just accepted responsibility at least at this point. It's about saving face I guess. A better negotiator than I, or somebody smarter might have been able to get more than I got but to be honest I've got more than I expected to get overall.

Ms Jones, yes you are right, I'm perhaps overreacting somewhat. It gets thrashed on a track, so I suppose what I am worried about. However, stuff like warming it up properly I'm very particular about and I'm conscious that the gearbag in these things are not super strong either.

They didn't get to do the exhaust because they didn't finish off the other thrash wagons in the workshop like they planned, which were all ahead of mine on the list apparently.

sooo, whens it booked in to get the exhaust done?

To me reading this .. the fact that they wont admit any admission of guilt is worse than the actual damage of the car itself . All workshops have incidents at some stage one way or another and we have a policy in our workshop to be honest to the customer . No matter how bad the damage (which is what insurance is for) or how it happened , the fact that they either wont admit it or lie to you about is worse for the reputation of a business than admitting fault and repairing it free of charge (before handing the car back to you acting like nothing happened).

Agree. But admitting fault/guilt seems to be a much further step for them than accepting responsibility. When I went in the second time with the quote for repairs, I asked if he could then explain how it had happened, and he just looked at the floor and said something about "we are still looking into it, we have some contractors who work here, but they are not in today to ask" so he's still denying actual knowledge of the event.
