used to drive a kia van that would randomly lock with the keys sitting in the console or on the front seat.

My years of training for opening things that are locked was always real fucking handy onsite. "You cant keep a good tradesman outta nuthin'" was the mantra from my first boss.

          x2

our young bloke has managed to flatten the battery even with the keys out.

I recall as a kid starting my grandpas kinga by juts grabbing the out side of the ignition barrel. Was heading towards either a truck or the crane when some one jumped in and stopped the car. coulumn shift aint that hard apparently.

Looks like the same as rj_ says for the Amarok.
Depends how it was locked. My E46 will let you pull once to unlock and again to open if they are just locked from driving off (I have disabled this) or manually locked by the console button. If they are locked using the remote the internal handles won't do shit to stop you just smashing a window and then opening a door from the inside.

+1 for no story and not letting kids fuck around in cars that magically lock themselves. Not a fucking death trap but good to over dramatise. You'd also bitch and moan if the locks didn't actually lock the car that it would be unsafe to drive around in a bad area.

Problem with kids is you can't watch them 24/7, the authorities don't like you locking them away 24/7 and the little fuckers don't always do/not do what you tell them.

VWs will also relock themselves if you unlock via remote and don't open a door within a certain time period.

The double pull to unlock from the inside could serve two purposes.
                1. Children like pulling on the internal handle... stops them accidently opening a door whilst in motion.
                2. Most new cars don't have the lock tab to use anymore. I assume the double pull is to let the person know the door is actually locked.

                Found this on another forum
There's another glitch which is actually a safety feature intended to stop you unlocking your vehicle by accident. You can actually lock your keys in the vehicle. If you have a door open and you lock the doors with the fob and then unlock them again you can then leave your keys in the vehicle, shut the door and the doors automatically lock after 60 seconds!

One of my guys did it by accident and I then had a 2 hour drive to take the spare keys. Pretty narked off!

Well I haven't taken any chances whatsoever and was straight on the phone to the panel beaters whom have my Amarok ATM to warn them of the imminent danger they face whilst my car is in there workshop.

I know I don't want the blood of a new apprentice on my hands if he were to be inadvertently locked inside!

Umm ... given that it's in the workshop because you had to cut your way out of it with a gas-axe after it locked itself ... dunno if you should be saying that?!
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

That video is my point. If someone got locked in on a hot day they have only minutes to live and cannot open the doors even using the door handles once it is locked.

No pics said if I tried it on her she would breathe heavily on the glass to create fog and write that I murdered her.

it's cause the car thinks you forgot the keys in the ignition, and people would steal it. that's what the dealer said.

and according to my tyre guy, it happens quite often, so nowadays they always open the window before doing alignments... cool story
Maybe that's why the doors lock but still should be able to open using inside door handles.

Terrible. Really sorry to hear that.

In my mates case the engine was not running but I wouldn't leave keys there anyway.

Good luck with the child. Hope it works out.

ECU should recognise that car is stopped and when stopped the inside door handles should open doors.

Which defeats the purpose of the deadlocking functionality.
