It's fair to say they will go to the same places, thats a void argument in this day and age, heck its almost always been void. Australia was conquered by Model Ts for fuck sake. A G60 crossed the simpson first (apparently) pretty much bone stock, mods are a newer thing, spend all this coin for looks, but oh wait you could have done it stock, with some LT tyres...

Anyhow, if you want to carry shit in a tray, and a lot of shit, fucked if you would buy a navara, or hilux or triton or or or... Spend a few moments looking at very heavily loaded dual cabs, you'll notice in a LOT of the cases they have bent chassis behind the cab. Weak as fucking piss! Patrol has a weak chassis too, but far superior to those other toy utes, Landcruiser has the strongest by far.

In my industry there's plenty of places a cruiser will go that a softer vehicle won't. And just because you can pick your way through with one doesn't mean it will do it all day every day with just regular servicing.

If any of you have been out to palm valley do you think your average stock off the showroom floor dual cab like a Navara, hilux, triton etc would like to do that 40k drive over and over between service intervals? A cruiser will do it

Remember also that in industry they have to be fuckwit proof. We've had to replace more than one sump on a Navara this year from people being silly. A lot harder to rip one off with a live axle under the front.

They're a tool built to do a job, and they do that job well. The next step up is something like an Isuzu 300 4x4 but they make Landcruisers seem like a rolls Royce.

Had an F350 4x4 and it was shit. Ended up welding the bullbar to the chassis to fix the front and making new suspension mounts/plating the chassis in the back. Shortly after traded it in on an izuzu

For serious abuse I would still definately choose a 79 over something like my Navara.
However, you'd want to be really serious about your abuse to warrant putting up with the pain of driving one daily.
My neighbor has the 79 wagon, and yeah, it's tough, but fuck its awfully ancient for the money.... and yes, it's left him stranded, albeit due to a silly little issue........ that all modern shit suffers from now and then.

Almost all prime movers have c-channel chassis with everything bolted to the webs to avoid stress raisers. So it's not c-channel = bad. But yeah, the tundra moved a lot.

The 79 would probably run 35" tyres with lockers happily for the rest of it's life. A hilux would spit cv's and front diff mounts and wheel bearings all over the place.

Was having a chat to a bloke today who runs an Isuzu N series 4wd truck, it replaced a 79 series 'Cruiser after it blew an engine, and got done over weight. He reckons the Isuzu shits on the 'Cruiser from a great height as a work vehicle, and the dealer doesn't fuck him around like Toyota did, know that feeling. He also mentioned the truck was cheaper then the 'Cruiser!

79's have issues with insufficient front axel load rating. At least that's what the tool in our fleet management section told us when they bought Patrols instead. Imho the Patrols aren't upto the job, the line's have six and at least one is off the road at any given time.

Apart from bullbar and winch, how do you over load a front axle?
                  Tow car/camping bus: 2011 D40 Navara ST

                  Baby mobile: 2016 Nissan Qashqai

Thats why the GVM upgrade is becoming popular....

Where fleet management tools are concerned that's where it usually means" I like patrols better" or " Nissan gave me deal on my patrol"

funny you dont even rate the defender, which has a higher payload rating than the cruiser
