Comes down to cruisers being common. If you need a part you can get it just about anywhere. Landrover are like that in some countries but cruisers are common here

I really want to upgrade my 80 series to a 4wd Ute. Being a Toyota fan boy, i guess i can only settle to Hilux or the 79. Would LOVE a Dual Cab but how can something like t hat be worth so much??? 80K or so for a GXL??
If the 80 is in decent condition why not get it chopped?
That way you get to keep the solid coil front and rear end, the better interior and if you have a 1hdt, a way better engine.

It's not bullshit. On the way to the Simpson Desert a few years ago a mate's 130 Defender broke down. We were only at Charleville. No-one out there had any diagnostic equipment that would work on the shitbox. Had to be towed back to Toowoomba to the nearest dealer/authorised service workshop. No-one out there would touch it. The first thing the Charlevile RACQ guy said, "Rovers and Jeeps, no good out here..."

So what went wrong with old mates 130?

Which should be the first thing you buy for any late model 4wd that is going to be used in remote areas. Just as essential as a spare tyre.

What has that got to do with parts availability?

I am a small 1.5 person workshop and I have about the cheapest diagnostic tool available. It talks to Land Rovers including late model Freelanders, Sports, Discoveries, even my '07 Vogue. Maybe they are just shit mechanics who don't have the basic equipment.

They weren't even selling dual cab 79s 2 years ago. So yeah, something's changed...

ONE workshop at Charleville had a scan tool. No talky to LandRover. And no interest in looking any further.

Who cares what it has to do with parts availability? If you can't get anyone west of Toowoomba to diagnose them, what difference does it make if you can get parts sent out there?

My 80 is in great condition and would be too nice to chop up, but I wanted something new and diesel.

Really thinking hard about doing the 1HDFTE conversion on my 80. I guess upside like you said is the better interior and nice to drive.

Just some pics to help motivate lol

yeah they're not a bad thing.. spent a bit of time driving rental ones a few years back... but based on these pics, I don't think they'd fare too well in any kind of decent crash (this had rops and cargo cage, which seem to be responsible for the thing keeping a recognisable shape..

you can always hear them when they break and they stop the engine immediately so you can't do any more damage.
