Maybe it is different these days, but 180kW RWD + testosterone doesn't sound like a great mix.

Hell, we got in enough trouble in cortinas, corollas and toranas and they were slow as anything in reality.
Funny isn't it, when i grew up and got my licence, everyone had Toranas with 308's, VB/VC SLE's with 308's, or Rotaries etc etc, all had shit suspension/brakes/tyres (by todays standards).... Anyway i see your point.

I work with Teenagers for a living, with probably over 300 on the payroll, we need to accept that there are some that shouldn't even be trusted with a 50kw Excell- yet others will be fine with a 'moderate car'. So for some of you guys to pass judgement based on not even knowing my kid is a bit out of line imo.

Anyway we are getting a bit off topic.

Wasn't meant to cause offence! And definitely not judging the type of person your son is.

When I think first car, I don't think modded rotary, V8 anything pretty much or something that is going to cause mates to egg someone on - generally.

Who knows what ill be like with a son at 16/17..... (Or I could just be cursed with more daughters)

Yeah and most of those 308 commodores where actually slower than a Twin Cam Excel.

Also the V35 is 206 KW not 180 as others have said.

Personally i wouldnt let my son get something like that as a first car but hes not my son.
Im 40 and id still be smashing the shit out of and "Drifting" a V35 Skyline now so cant say i know any P Platers that wouldnt be doing the same but with no driving experience.
Let him cut his teeth in something else imho.
            I climbed Mt Druitt

Yeah, and a V35 not only has significantly more power, it's probably actually running more than 20% of the time ... :p

If he can be convinced the Liberty is a worthwhile alternative, that sounds better to me ... but I don't think he'd accept it was worth considering c/f the foollleee sik Skyline. And thinking about it, the Skyline fits fewer people to egg him on & whom he'd feel the need to impress.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Couldn't be any worse than a ba falcon with 190 kW ? All the p players around my neck of the woods are dropping single spinners in these things everywhere. So skyline should be a bit more 'planted' to the road ?

I'd think it's not the powahz so much as how fullleee sik it is ... Skyline is so much more sik than any Foulcan, and sik behaviour is expected to follow.

Correct and Peer pressure off mates who expect you to be Tsuchiya because you own a Import Skyline and therefore expect to see your Dorifto Talents.

I looked into them briefly. Think 350Z coup with the addition of 7 inches added to the wheelbase, rear seats and a handful more kg's. Everything else is pretty much the same. Obviously panels, lights etc will cost more due to less availability, which insurance will reflect.

Lol at the generalizations in this thread. Not EVERY teenage boy acts like a clown behind the wheel, especially if they realize THEY have to pay for the repairs themselves.

Id get him a GT STI liberty for no cop attention, 350z for sluts.

And a p plate turbo exemption. 17 year old lass I know in Roma drives around in a 90k v8 tt cruiser and SS commonwhore.

My folks helped me buy a first car I liked because they figured that if I loved the car, I'd do less stupid stuff in it because I wouldn't want to break it.
They were right in my case. Would not have been true for all my peers.

My first car was one of these.

Of all my mates with stupid cars, this was by far the most fun of all of them. rx7's, VLT's, v8 vh/vk's etc etc. This thing would do 360's down a wet road with 100psi in the rear retreads and a tab of handbrake a few times each loop. Valve bounced down hill at 112, otherwise 85-90 max. Fuck the skyline, 500cc of fury.
