This is why I'm scared to strip the paint of the Stang. I know the colour is a blowover, but meh, but its the bog factor thats an unknown, and potentially a rabbit hole to go down.Originally posted by Marlin View PostOff topic a little but ohhh sooo true. Typical American "resto" is truly appalling in body and paint. Not sure why they seem to struggle so badly.

There are states in Australia have no annual roadcheck.Originally posted by JayTHEFordman View PostThis is why I'm scared to strip the paint of the Stang. I know the colour is a blowover, but meh, but its the bog factor thats an unknown, and potentially a rabbit hole to go down.

With 60's 'stangs they're typically ok if you can jack one corner and the rest of the car sorta moves with it.Originally posted by JayTHEFordman View PostThis is why I'm scared to strip the paint of the Stang. I think I'm cool, looking hard at it I can't see any real amount of bog, but I aint stripping her to find out. Its straight and one colour, there ends my fucks given :D
As for suspension etc, it was completely rooted when I got her, and I mean fucked, previous owner had the belief that it "drove well for age", obviously flogged out bushes/shocks/ball joints/power steering was ok "for its age". Dickhead.Envy is Ignorance, Imitation is Suicide - Ralph Waldo Emerson

HahahahaOriginally posted by ChrisS View PostNo one is arguing that point, can you fucking read? :knock:
And no I'm not some "greaser-style" cunt who laughs at cars with 'those dang fangled computers' running them (and I don't Rock 'n' Roll dance), you Latte drinking rice boy. :D
The point I'm trying to make is a correctly maintained no tech vehicle can still be a reliable daily driver.
Hell even a poorly maintained car can be a reliable daily driver (as my Chev has proven).
Im asking why is chucking in modern drivelines a massive no-no, but period correct performance modifications so awesome
Imposter - big blocks are cool, yea.. But youll make the car handle shitter than it already does, the alloy LS lowers front end weight over stock and makes the driving experience better overall - plus a 6sp!
Also, i like cappucinos.. Its the foam makes me happy

fUCK, You need your eyes/ears cleaned out. Noone has said that upgrading to late model/injected is a no-no, its just not as awesome as you think it is, and I think you just don't get the fact that there's more to driving a classic than just driving it.Originally posted by yohoes View PostHahahaha

I like the fact that my 47yr old car creaks, gets grumpy when cold, handles ok but not awesome etc it reminds me that its a live then and has character, it makes me appreciate my new car so much more, but I have no desire to turn my old car into a new one, that would negate everything that my classic stands for.

why bother putting a newer motor in an older car when you could just drive a new car?Originally posted by yohoes View PostHahahaha

I realise the general discussion in this thread is more swapping old V8s for modern V8s in old American iron.
But fucked if I'm driving around in a period 2.0L carbed engine when I can have an all alloy V8 in my classic GM car with only a 20kg weight penalty over the old lump.
And fucked if I'm running a period correct Carbed Holden 308 as well which may be more in keeping with the character of the car, and brand of the car, but is fucking heavy, thirsty,
more expensive, less powerful and worse to drive.
I'm old enough to remember how not so great those things were to drive.1978 Opel Manta SR Berlinetta 1UZFE
