That's 5000km/day, averaging over 200km/h ... nah, that's bullshit.Originally posted by 132oft View PostPardon? 1 day each way?Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Ha, just came to say this about Melbourne.
Brisbane's not a big issue at most times except a little of Logan to Gateway Bridge at peak hour, Freeway the whole way from the NSW/Qld border to North Coast basically.
Don't drive through the tunnels in Brisbane or they'll send you a toll bill in the mail ....

Hi
Sound pieces of advice - thanks again
Now the crew thinks it would be really cool if we could get access to the apron in front of the Opera House - has anyone tried a similar thing. I have send of an email to ask about it- Other suggestions
Here is the latest route - a bit longer now and the journey time has been extended to seven days for the 16500km

Do these roads actually exists? Feel free to comment of suitability - I know there have been many comments already but perhaps people with a bit of local knowledge could help out
I will shortly start looking into the actual timings of start and when we could expect to pass the big cities (in an ideal world)
Have you got other suggestion of what we should bring... No need for CB radio as we have a satellite phone.
Apart from the school holidays would there be any benefits weatherwise in delaying to 20th Feb... ( a bit later than I orginally said)

good luck buddy.
If you make it, and I hope you do, you'll not have much memory of it from exhaustion and nobody else will give a fuck.
Probably should just go fishing.Pest Control - Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich and South West QLD PF discounts apply.

Just curious. How are you planning to get import approval and registration on that thing? Is that a roll cage in it? Is this going to fail at the wharf before it starts?Pest Control - Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich and South West QLD PF discounts apply.

You've actually taken out some of the more interesting coastline.
for example, muuray bridge to Ballarat is bloody boring. Literally nothing. The great ocean road is spectacular. It takes a lot more time though. Time your run for dawn and it won't be as bad. Worth the extra effort for a one off.
I kinda don't see the point of trying to do things as fast as possible and then going into and out of the various CBDs which costs heaps of time....
Use a ring road around Perth/Melbourne/Brisbane to save some time to spend on seeing some scenery perhaps? unless you really want to drive by the MCG?
Sydney will take more time than both of them, but not driving over the harbour would be criminal.
Cant see any roads you've picked which are dirt anymore, you should throw some in again :D

Surely you have to drive through Canberra, the capital, you are going to every other major city and it won't add much time.Originally posted by Great Dane View PostHi

Re CB; If it's raining or dirt/dusty how do you think you are going to go passing one of these ...
Take a CB Radio, please. Every truck driver uses them and will help you along, you might be stuck behind a road train if you can't ask him to help you past as they can't see you, they will tell you alternate roads to take, where theres roos/obstacles on the road, where Coppers are and just generally have a chat to kill the boredom besides getting you help faster from simply towing you if broken or bogged to first aid that might save you minutes and make all the difference.
Legitimate way to shortcut as well and no one would think the lessser of you; Go Sydney - Hume Freeway - Canberra - Cooma - Cann River - Melborne (or vice versa) rather than the Coast South East. Far better road and miss crawling through all the SE Coast towns.Originally posted by peal View PostSurely you have to drive through Canberra, the capital, you are going to every other major city and it won't add much time.
Shirley he can't go the Hume Melb - Syd, that's a big cut to claim "Round Oz"??Originally posted by peal View Post
