5 years gives me time to get a truckies license, a truck, and the meanest fuel-tank-trailer-setup ever! nobody'll stop a truck. coppers can try, but i aint stoppin!!
You should try to scam a truck-license somehow ... admittedly this was in 1980, but my nopix' mother (having emigrated from Germany) was handed a full-on allowed-to-drive-a-road-train class license when she first applied for a NSW driver's license. They're not quite sure why or how, it just happened.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
You've actually taken out some of the more interesting coastline.
for example, muuray bridge to Ballarat is bloody boring. Literally nothing. The great ocean road is spectacular. It takes a lot more time though. Time your run for dawn and it won't be as bad. Worth the extra effort for a one off.
I kinda don't see the point of trying to do things as fast as possible and then going into and out of the various CBDs which costs heaps of time....
Use a ring road around Perth/Melbourne/Brisbane to save some time to spend on seeing some scenery perhaps? unless you really want to drive by the MCG?
Yeah this. Bypassing the SW of WA is missing out on some of the nicest scenery and driving roads on this side of the country imo.
Plus you said you wanted to stick relatively close to the coast....
I reckon leave Cairns in - it's a cracking drive up to Port Douglas (if you beat the tourists), then instead of going all the way back down to Townsville, cut inland to go up the Gillies Hwy to Atherton....EPIC drive. Then play on from there.
You'll miss the drive between Townsville & Charters Towers, but it's a horrible boring drive anyway so who cares.
Brisbane tips
Between Strathpine and Woolangabba on the M3 (The Brisbane CBD leg). If you don't plan to stop in the CBD, save yourself the time and stay on the M1. Will give you guys maybe an extra 30minutes, plus you'll skip the fixed speed camera at Macgregor; it's only on the northbound direction anyway.
My tip, do not expect to go anywhere near 100km/h on the M1 between Upper Mount Gravatt and Loganholm (south of Brisbane) if it is between 0900-1600 on a weekend. I can't comment on week days as I just avoid that section at all costs.
As you cross the boarder between NSW/QLD there are some fixed speed cameras on the Tugan Bypass too.

If the ownership of the vehicle in question isn't directly linked to a single person ... does someone from overseas need to fear fixed cameras?
I'm guessing that some condition for the temporary importing/using of the Cayenne would be a name the fines can be nailed onto; but you do have to wonder about the cost of the whole expedition as opposed to the cost of those fines if the intention is to pay them; and if there's no actual name linked to the car in the various state government systems then who'd care if they get a few 45km/h+ over speed-camera fines?

only read portions of this thread , has anyone got them an m1 300 sticker yet ? I think with the right preperation and good fortune that it may be possible . .what they need is a few bikies as front runners to distract law enforcement ...
I am the driving force behind the project and also one of the drivers of this project. I have been looking at all your replies and it seems like we have not been clear on what we are looking for and what we are doing.
We are not racing and we are sticking to the speed limits. But we are driving constantly at a speed very close to the speed limit. We are not visiting and "nice locations" to spend time there except gasoline stations and they are normally not too nice.
We are fairly experinced drivers as we have done this before in other parts of the World and trust me, the Canadian police are also very strict when it comes to speeding.
We are looking for advise how to make it and yes we have set a tough target, but we are looking for your assistance to reach our goal. Just like we are looking for your advise what would be a good route for us to and to motivate for others to beat. ( Either pass by the main cities in Australia or the closest drivable road to the coast without back tracking ) you can make a map for us and say why we should take this route and this could mean we would drive your route if you have a good explanaiton why this route should be driven
We are well aware we are exposed to weather and wildlife, but this just add to the challenge.
So please let us know if you know if you have any information about:
- parts of the road not drivable during this period
- Where to get the best up to date information about weather and road conditions
- where we have more than 2000 km between fuel tanks ( we have over 2000 km fuel range )
- anything that you think wil make our chances of finishing higher
the car is almost ready for shipping and we hope you will help us to succeed this challenge and we would love to meet many of you on route and at our Sydney opera house as this will be our start and Finish point.
So please not need for bad Words og too much negativity, please be constructive but at the same time help us to explore all solutions ..

Hi Jan.
This site has information on road conditions in Queensland - http://www.racq.com.au/travel/drive_...oad_conditions
I'm not sure about what the other states have as an equivalent
Fuel won't be a problem at all with your 2,000 km range. The longest stretch without fuel will be across the Nullabor Plain; just plan ahead for your fuel stops and you won't have a problem.

Jan gday
You going to need to post you latest actual planned itintery, then we can help with your needs for road conditions and potential wildlife threats.
Its a pretty big country and conditions change from desert to town fairly quickly over here,so alot to go over.
NSW equivalent is here http://livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/desktop.html They also have a mobile app that does the same thing, search for Live Traffic NSW. It is updated regularly so should be useful for you.
Conditions yes but those sites will be useful for warning about closures in the event of an accident etc, probably worth having and checking now and then.
