What car is this? Who did the new motor and install of such?

Nothing worse for a shop than a guy rolling up, with a multiple person built car, some other guys engine and a PCM supplied by the customer that all it needs is 'oil and a dyno tune'.

    Somefink wong here
car is a EL falcon ,new motor was installed by me , built by a place in vic,

the reason i took it there , was my setup ecu and coils ect is the same setup they have done on another falcon which made good power, so the wiring would be much the same , i tried to do everything i could to the car before it left ,to cut down on there time spent on the car .

will wait and see if they call me today , tow truck will be booked for friday to get it

Way too long. I had the same from an ems dealer too.... Ended up there for 7 months before I gave up and took the car home not running.

      So many mechanics are shit.

I subby out all wiring now, that way I can still do day to day tuning and my wiring guy gets the wiring done at the same time works much better and keeps things rolling along..
Sounds like the best way to run a business just stick to what you do best and hire specialists to wire up the ECU otherwise one becomes a jack of all trades and master of none IMHO.

          Devil's advocate mode on.

Don't forget a lot of these guys are trained in taking oil out of a car, and inserting new oil.

A "mechanic" doesn't instantly mean you know every nuance about every car. When shit goes wrong, often you wil be able to google and find a solution to the problem quicker than they can. I get it that they had done one similar before ... But sometimes shit goes wrong.

Anyway .. Good luck. I hope you get the result you are after.

            100%
I can't do as good a job as him that's for sure. If I'm stuck and need to do it I will..
We subby out lots of stuff like auto rebuilds, diff rebuilds etc. Sure we could do em but not worth the effort or time
            im a cunt

                For example.

Supply and wire, setup and tune ps2000 is $3800-$4800 depending on options..
                Sprint 500 runs about $2150
Oil change $200-$300 depending on oil..
There wouldn't be $5k worth of other shit there

We do a sprint 500 in 3 days drive in drive out.

Ah ok, so when you say 2 weeks you don't mean it will take 2 weeks of labour. Gotcha

Fuck no.. You wouldn't make any money if it took 2 weeks straight to do a job like that

If the business is more than just 2 guys then you also have variables like cunts not turning up to work, being sick etc. This fucks everything for the guy running the show. Doesn't stop him picking up the phone though.

I wired a PS2000 to a 2JZ vvt with 6LS coils using all new connectors yesterday. Took a solid day and that is not using most of the DPOs and DSI's that the PS2000 has dozens of.

Are EMS' $500 or something? Fucks me why you would use one otherwise.

I've encountered quite a few mechanics that are really good with the fixing, but they don't have particularly great skills surrounding other shit you've got to be at least OK at to run a small business ... stuff like book-keeping, budgeting, and particularly scheduling.
The guy who's had my car for a year really knows what he's doing, he's great at it ... but he's just hopeless at organising the time to do stuff like mine which is really time-consuming (tuning an ECU) as opposed to some guy with a busted R32 GT-R who needs it fixed in time for the race the weekend after next (the likes of whom keep turning up every week). Plus it's always idled like a complete POS due to having low vacuum (due to a combo of low-ish CR & the chosen cam), and he's struggling to get it idling like he believes it should be able to; which I presume leads to lots of wash-rinse-repeat instances of "crap that's not working, race-car guy's back & needs it desperately OK I'll do the race-car & get back to this".
I had it all wired-up (ie. drove it the ~35km over there with no problems apart from lots of other drivers wearing lots of unburned PULP ), the only thing electrically/mechanically he needed to do was the diode for the XF-spec idle-control motor (which I'd completely forgotten about). So the biggest thing really involved with mine is time.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

When I was working in a shop, most people don't mind that the work on their car is running late. They just want to be told the truth and be provided with a realistic timeframe for when it will be done.
