This is my choice. Been stocked at most Supercheap stores is a big draw, makes it easy to get in a pinch.

Fuck Lonx. So much anger when you put up a thread which can never reach a consensus.
None of us are qualified. Is one brand of oil (excluding Bill's post) guaranteed to rip your engine to shreds? No.

I use Castrol 10w/60 as it was recommended as a cheaper alternative to his own product by the owner of Mainlube.
A mate reckons his mechanic said never use Castrol as it is shit.

You might as well ask "which car is best?"

Mechanics avoid Castrol cause it tends to sludge up sooner/more frequently than others. I use whatever I'm stocking at the time. Gulf western, Penrite, whatever.

            Agreed.

            It's all very subjective.

While some people will say their car "loves" one brand of oil, or runs "better", or "smoother", or "makes more power", or "feels more responsive", it's mostly in the mind.

Pick which type of oil you need (Synth, Semi-synth, mineral), work out your vicousity, and go from there. Price is more important than brand.

Probably because they're using $14/5L 20W50 in modern engines. Old habits die hard.

Yet to see any sludging issues from using their 5W30 504/507 VW oil, and I've been using it for around 6 years.

Proper engine clearences and tune are the answer. For race cars proper temp management with previous points is the answer.

I use Fuchs, it seems to be alright.

I should have worded the thread "which oil is best" then... but no, I was just after opinions really mate. Calm down, relax, have a beer.

Millers Nano Drive 10W40 or 10W50 depending on season and if I can get it. Engine always seems to run best on this..

If not, Amsoil Dominator 15W50 or RP XPR 10W40

                        Zero problems.

Seriously I think that's nothing to do with the oil there, it's typical falcon tough!!

It's magnetic that sludges up the engine. I find edge to be the standout. I find penrite very over rated.

And yet 100k kms I've put on my ls1 (@225k km now) running magnatec and when I had the heads and sump off it was all very clean.
I don't see how any of this discussion is useful without proper test results from oil analysis.

                                http://www.ulx110.com/index.html

Nothing comes close, all the race engines I build use it - strip, circuit, burnout etc etc
The stuff is magic & not even that expensive.
