What's the hotness in oils these days?

Fuck Lonx. So much anger when you put up a thread which can never reach a consensus.
None of us are qualified. Is one brand of oil (excluding Bill's post) guaranteed to rip your engine to shreds? No.
I use Castrol 10w/60 as it was recommended as a cheaper alternative to his own product by the owner of Mainlube.
A mate reckons his mechanic said never use Castrol as it is shit.
You might as well ask "which car is best?"

Agreed.
It's all very subjective.
While some people will say their car "loves" one brand of oil, or runs "better", or "smoother", or "makes more power", or "feels more responsive", it's mostly in the mind.
Pick which type of oil you need (Synth, Semi-synth, mineral), work out your vicousity, and go from there. Price is more important than brand.Originally posted by brewdlesIn short, some cunt at test and tune had a 250cc honda turning to 11ty and it sounded porn. Do that.

Probably because they're using $14/5L 20W50 in modern engines. Old habits die hard.Originally posted by EVOSTi View PostMechanics avoid Castrol cause it tends to sludge up sooner/more frequently than others. I use whatever I'm stocking at the time. Gulf western, Penrite, whatever.
Yet to see any sludging issues from using their 5W30 504/507 VW oil, and I've been using it for around 6 years.Originally posted by brewdlesIn short, some cunt at test and tune had a 250cc honda turning to 11ty and it sounded porn. Do that.

I should have worded the thread "which oil is best" then... but no, I was just after opinions really mate. Calm down, relax, have a beer.PF Gamers List

Seriously I think that's nothing to do with the oil there, it's typical falcon tough!!Originally posted by nelsonian101 View PostI've used Royal Purple Synthetic 10W 40 in a highly tuned daily driven FgXR6T circuit car for 8 years.
Zero problems.
Car has now done 226,000kms and 30+ circuit days.
It's magnetic that sludges up the engine. I find edge to be the standout. I find penrite very over rated.

Nothing comes close, all the race engines I build use it - strip, circuit, burnout etc etc
The stuff is magic & not even that expensive.
