Most dealers I've seen used Castrol. Surely they wouldn't use something that would come back to bite them on the ass... Right??

Always used Penrite myself but I know people who just use cheap shit and never have problems as long as you change it often. No point spending $100 on oil every 6 months if $30-40 is gonna do the same thing.

With regards to bulk supply, there is a tendancy to lean towards potential margins, followed by aftersales service, and applications. For dealerships, they aim for a one-size-fits-all oil, with one or two engine/model-specific ones.

Quality doesn't really come into it in most cases.

fuchs make good oil that keeps race engines alive, penrite is good for roadies and if you have more money than sense LAT make good stuff that IS actually worth HP (seen it with my own eyes plenty of times) and as a side bonus most of their oil is BLUE! so it looks cool.. /CSH OVER

Having said that, knowing TK's background I would be surprised if you would be disappointed with ULX110.

Am happy with Penrite Syn as it has 1200 PPM ZDDP But the neW replacement has over 2000 PPM ZDDP

I have been happy with fuchs when i had a local supplier, since switched to gulf western.

Seems to hold psi better at temp and recovers faster than the castrol. Ran before trying GW.

No idea beyond the above though.

Probably the best way to research engine oils these days is to go to bobistheoilguy.com forums and look for used oil analyses for your engine from someone in a similar climate with similar usage.

I've used Castrol Edge 10/60 for many years in various RB engines.

The latest one, an RB20, has done a bazillions road then race kilometers all without an oil cooler. No oil temp gauge either, but man it must be hot as hell after 30 laps or a 50klm targa stage.
Rebuilt the engine recently and it was amazingly clean inside.
                    Will
                    Use it again.

I use Lucas racing oil in the Valiant though due to flat tappet cam requirements for high zinc etc...

Oils ain't oils as they say.

I just pulled down Coota's 2J for a freshen after around 200 passes on the strip at over 1000hp, runs ULX110.
                      Bearings look like new.

Jasons 365 used to suffer high oil temps & low hot oil pressure after a few laps with penrite, switch to ULX110 & hot oil pressure came up 20psi, he's checked the bearings a couple of times now as the motor has done quite a lot of work - always perfect.

Mondo (RVK355) runs ULX110 in his 8800rpm dry sump 355 burnout engine, it lives with some pretty severe abuse.

S&J down here run ULX110 in their V8 supercar & all of their WRX & Evo race engines.

That close on 400hp BMW M20 engine runs ULX110.

& so on & so forth.

In my mind it's the best oil on the market bar none, it's australian made & it's pretty cost effective, it's also compatible with alcohol fuels (E85 & meth).

It's alright, it's not ULX tho.

                              Ta.
I've used 0W40 in the Suzuki engine with good success for years. I'd be reluctant to go to the thicker ULX oil though as it will cost me a few hp.

                              Edit - I just saw they have a 5W30, that's liveable.

I'm far from asking what is "good". More so asking what others are using generally as motul seems to be used less these days, back then it was quite popular but worked well for me also.
I run turbolight in the Rolla. UOA comes back pretty good, that's with 12 month changes. I'd like to run something thinner though. I haven't run anything else, so no idea how other oils compare; if it works why change?

300v comes with heaps of molybdenum, which is meant to be good; I couldn't tell a difference though.
