There isn't any way in hell I would stand near the front of a car during a pull..

Hot water is more a risk than metal
I can see times when you may need to stand near the front, eg trying to find what is causing a issue at low speed or gentle acceleration
you cant spell advertisements without semen between the tits

Put it this way one day you will get covered in some sort of hot fluid.. Be it oil or water or combo if both it will happen ..

This is a problem when there is no acoustic insulation and dynos are just slapped in the middle of the shop etc

With the right room setup you can hear everything from in the car..
      im a cunt
and apparently i dont know shit...

Dale, do you use a headset with knock sensor or just listen like you say in your dyno room?
          If in doubt, flat out!

I've got headsets, as well as digital knock box. About to get a digital one that will log direct to the Dyno. But for the normal holden and ford shit they are not usefull and the factory ones work well enough

A mechanic was killed in Canberra many years ago when an engine blew up. Not sure the circumstances, I think it was just an engine running on a stand (engine dyno?), not actually in a car on a dyno. He was an experienced middle-aged mechanic not a young cowboy.

Wouldn't there be some sort of tuning widget/gizmo that can be hooked up to the motor and dyno to tell if it's detonating?

My mechanic mate here was leaning over a car after going for a test drive. Engine was off. Radiator neck came off and he got burned from his guts down to his knees.

Nearly lost his cock. Sheets of skin falling off and it took 6 months for it to heal.

                Cunt of a thing.

                  Zero in fact but a motor is a motor;
How many engines have you had let go catastrophically on your dyno though?

Blowing hoses will go at idle just as they will go on full noise, dont tell me you dont lean over hot running motors.
Popping hoses is never really an issue for me, nearly everything I work on has rear or side mount radiators with the hoses more out of the way vs a car with it under your gut when you lean over.

Been there with my car, bumped the top outlet and hose with the motor off and it clean broke off, rained 100c coolant all over my arm, Chinese shit.
Thank fuck the garden tap was 2m away, had it under for 20mins and managed to avoid serious burns.
Put a full alloy in after that.

Never had one throw a rod etc, had plenty split water hoses and oil lines etc spraying shit everywhere.. Very fucking common on shit boxes with cheap ass china hose and fittings etc..

I don't work on home made creations so I don't have to worry about dodgy DIY shit but I can accecpt that point
I still think the risk from the motor ejecting bits and killing him is fuck all.

We had an R32 race car on the dyno where I did my time that the flywheel let go on. Went through the bell housing, chassis rail, bodywork, flew 2m and into the wall. Some of it is still between the inner and outer wall of the workshop.
                        If in doubt, flat out!

I dont have an issue with it, more often than not I'm upside down in the back of an excavator trying to fix shit in the middle of nowhere. That's just how the job is done. You worry about a coolant hose blowing, I worry about a 1" hydraulic hose @360bar blowing.

I can't understand it at all, you aren't gonna hear shit from there. I've never had an engine explode on my dyno, had a few tailshafts let go and that's scary enough. I won't let anyone near the car when I'm running it up. I'm paranoid about leaks, fires etc.
