Don't know why you would want or need it. S6 (fastest) is supposed to be 80ms and even requires turning off traction control since I think it can't really keep up with the sudden shift. Speed of change is electronically controlled and probably at the limits of the mechanics and hydraulics. A full noise S6 shift from 1-2 is brutal. You look in the rear view mirror for driveline bits.

I don't really get the hate for SMG. Don't like it don't buy it. Manuals are rare though.

Nah probably the clutch delay valve on manuals only as mentioned.

4 main BMW automated manual boxes.

SMG I on E36 M3 - lots of gaids
SMG II on E46 M3 - significant improvement but still disliked by many
SMG III as in E60 M5, M6 - a bit better again but not as much as I > II changes

DCT in a number of different cars these days is the proper double clutch version.

there is a silver E46 M3 manual on carsales for 28k that might be worth a look. drives solid, pretty straight all round.
ppi showed up cracked subframe mounts as the only issue, owner refused to deviate from previous agreed price of 27k despite this being potential $1800-5000 fix.
if you're okay at welding give it a shot perhaps.

i'd be able to fix it no problem just cbf'd doing it as well as paying full price. if someone wants it and is willing to deal with that i had the ppi done and it's solid, so go for it, they'll take 27k. it's due for a service too
