If it's a swap to the VS/R31 (I forget) BW with 4.11s like we used to do, then do yourself a favor and grab a couple of spare centres now.Originally posted by 200MPH View PostSort of on topic: A mate of mine* bought a VX S2 SS manual for 7k yesterday with 112k's on board, stock apart from exhaust and what seems to be a 4.11 diff. Good nick, but red paint will be needing a cut and polish as usual.
* OK, it was me. Consequently got a 2002 Magna Sports Manual up for sale if you in WA and feel like some torque steer loving.

Is a VT really a better car than a VS? First production compared with final production etc.Originally posted by Faux Forg View PostNo. Take one for a drive and you'll understand why in the first 100 metres.
A part of me sort of wants an old 5L.Originally posted by Jimthe only decent six pot holden ever put in a car was the nissan RB30

Better off finding a VX than a VT. Virtually the same car, but VX is so much stiffer and tighter than VT.
I got a very clean VX II S super 6 for $4000 a year ago, 220k but well looked after.
Ive driven and worked on at least 500 (probably a lot more) VT-VX, this one is best ive seen for this many kms.Originally posted by RdynoIt's fucking storytime with Rdyno cunt shut the fuck up and fuck off.

Nope, centre is an M80, bit bigger than BW78(7.8inch crown hence numbering). 3.9 & 4.1 gears range from $450 for no name gears up to $750+ for genuine.Originally posted by <---cop View PostIf it's a swap to the VS/R31 (I forget) BW with 4.11s like we used to do, then do yourself a favor and grab a couple of spare centres now.
I hate VS-VX with a passion as dailys. Moo-teks, Rattley windows, link pins, coil packs and ignition modules, rattling plastics inside, rear main leaks etc etc. Every one ive had has cost a shitload in maintainence over a Pulsar, Starlet or Corolla of similar vintage.

Yeah VT is better. Although I think i'd rather a VS 5L than a VT 5L for the weight savings and no need for the VT extra insulation for blocking moo noises.Originally posted by Asteroid View PostIs a VT really a better car than a VS? First production compared with final production etc.

Sample of one admittedly; but the VS we got 9 years ago has done a cam-angle sensor, a set of tyres, a set of front suspension-linkage bushings of some sort, a fan motor (engine not HVAC), probably a dozen various internal & external incandescent bulbs, about 2 sets of headlight bulbs, I think we may have gotten the discs machined or replaced once, radiator & plastic cooling-attachments needed replacing once as they were crumbling like a BMW, either the DFI module or the coilpack (can't remember which), and somehow also managed to tear the metal to which the boot hinge mounts attach (replace saggy boot-struts became reinforce stuffed parcel-shelf undersides). Paying someone else to do most of it, it's probably been about $500/yr in repairs & maintenance. That's really not a lot of money, for a DD bought when it was 10 years old & kept for another 9. The KE30x's & AE82 seemed to need maintenance stuff done just as often; the Volvos really haven't ever been used often enough to judge; thinking about it the Liberty cost nothing, but then it was only 3 years & 50k kms old when I got it (and I'm excluding the $5k of head-work Subaru paid for
).
Before owning the VS, I'd only have owned a VS if it was close to half market value ... having owned a VS, I'd consider paying RRP for a VF.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

I decided one day that I wanted to bolt an LS1 and 6 speed into a Jap car. That night I picked up a VT SS with a rebuilt 3.9 LSD, tune, 8 months reg, pacemaker extractors, new tyres, etc etc etc for $3k. I didn't even have to shop around, there were so many on Gumtree I just went and got the first one that replied. By that logic I can't see a V6 auto base model being more than $1000-$1500.

I bought my dead stock, 1-owner, log-booked 2002 VX SS II with 178,000km for $7k 'cause I thought it was a solid car in fucking good nick and had decent amount of rego/replaced parts. Pity it's a fucking auto.
Holy shit I wish I'd spent a bit more on a manual, but they were all $9k+ at the time, had more km and were molested in some way.
