I reckon you're right, it's only designed to last 24 hours, but 30 years is a decent amount of progress as well.
    From the nissan site:

Revving to 7,500 rpm, the Nissan DIG-T R produces 380 Nm of torque. At a ratio of 10 horsepower per kilogram, the new engine actually has a better power-to-weight ratio than the new engines to be used in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship this year.

Hmm ... that seems to be pulling an only vaguely relevant statistic out of their arse, doesn't it? ie. it's a little detached from everything because all it's connections to Other Stuff are different?
Does the car also have a better turning circle than F1 cars?

I probably misread what I was responding to on the previous page ... *edit* ... no, hang on, I was responding to a "more power at comparable displacement", not weight; which obviously doesn't relate the 2014 rules - no way they'd be only pulling ~430hp or so.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

This year's engines are significantly limited in their fuel consumption as refueling has been eliminated, fuel tanks have dropped significantly to a maximum of 100kg, and all engines must be fitted with a fuel flow restrictor.

They also must be a 1.6 litre v6 platform, turbo charged, with an energy recovery system, limited to 15,000 rpm.

Formula 1 is no longer the home of maximum performance, and hasn't been for a long time.

Shirley they can't be down to ~400hp though?
              If so, mind definitely boggled!

they are only claiming better power to weight than the new F1 engines not that they make more power, dont the F1 engines weigh 80+kg without all the kers stuff

                        40 kg 400 hp.

I'll take 2 and a bit of them. should be good for 8 pots and 1000 hp.

Just out of interest how heavy is a hybussa engine?

Also I used to lift 40kg torch on water proofing rolls upstairs to the roof[/I]

Yeah I read claimed output for F1 engines is around 750hp, though I imagine that varies depending on state of tune at any given moment now that they change mapping during the race.
