Yep last year they told me they paid one and farone told me he didn't. Guy that takes rock buggies said he had to (which would make sense according to that link as he's not "touring")
Maybe the torana's, ahm, rego status affected it. Fucked if I know, everyone (even govco) give you different answersI own a two and a half litre Commodore

I'm pretty sure we required a Carnet when we were shipping stuff for work.Originally posted by irsa76 View PostApparently the US doesn't require a Carnet."Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" I know the guy who took the blown HJ Stato over a couple years back paid a large Carnet and Arby was quoted a significant amount for WAR440 (which is one of the reasons he chose not to do it). My understanding was it was more about being able to bring the car back into Australia than anything the Yanks were concerned about.

I don't think its easy - I mean, if you had big dollars to throw at it, maybe it is.. building a car completely from scratch..
My ute makes like 400 hp, runs mid 11's, is pretty happy on the street, but I know something would break/melt/play up/need to be nursed that would make it shit, If i rebuilt it strictly for the event - wouldn't get much change out of 40k, by the time you 4-link it to make it a reliable 11.5 passer, right converter/turbo/engine combo to be able to get it off the line in all weather.. and then mega overkill on the cooling & electrical system etc - and then a spare everything? - and thats before you get it in a container. This is a post i wrote by mistake, which is nice...

Not sure about that, from my experience (tho with a race car) you can leave the car there and travel back and car can be sold but you would then have to pay the taxes/duties owed.Originally posted by Marv View PostThere are other restrictions, though. Car can't be sold in that country, you can't leave that country without the car,etc

If anyone is actually thinking of doing it next year, but can't work out the timing etc. for picking it up from port and getting it to the event, I'm living in the US now, and while I'm not in a region where they're likely to hold it, I'd love to follow drag week if I've got time, so if I can help in any way, shout out... Even if its just to go sign some customs paperwork or something dumb like that so you don't have to get here before the car arrives..Originally posted by myshortyboombaI've had many gauges in cars. I always found the conrods react faster than a gauge.
you can always hear them when they break and they stop the engine immediately so you can't do any more damage.

Yeah but that's starting with something that needs a fair bit of work. If you wanted to do daily driver ie (high 10's):Originally posted by GSRman View Postthe completely normal street rego?

I agree with him, I'm confident i could give it a decent go with a my own car. Never will as i could never justify the expense but Farone seem's to be making it look so much harder than it really should be?

Yeah, but you'd have to put all the spare parts on the Carnet, and doing the Carnet for the car removes any doubt that the fuckheads in Customs will let you bring your heavily modified drag sled back into the country...Originally posted by ALLMTR View PostDon't know what your work is but the link I posted talks about private vehicles for "touring" purposes"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" Much respect to your car but he's 1.2 seconds faster and about 1200lbs heavier. That gets hard on parts quick. I've always maintained a high 8 car like yours would be about the threshold of going from a cool trip to a five day PITAOriginally posted by ONO 747 View PostI agree with him, I'm confident i could give it a decent go with a my own car.
