Hired the last model corolla in perth and drove to geralton and back. I turned emo within an hour. The accelerator pedal is that bad.

yep, cruise remains one of the few must have features for me.

I wouldn't have used it yesterday anyway, traffic was reasonably thick and the whole time you're alternating between 90 - 115kmh.

      It's unnecessary

Disagree. Around town maybe, but when I drove from Melbourne to Port Douglas in a V6 Triton, it was an epic cunt of a trip without cruise. Was using my left foot at times on the throttle because my right foot had gone numb holding it in the one spot for so long etc.
Have never despised a car so much for not having cruise.

Maybe it's just me then (or you lot have underdeveloped ankle muscles thanks to cruise control). I've done some huge trips and honestly not missed it for a second. I had every intention of getting an aftermarket kit but never bothered.

no, don't own a car with cruise control, never needed it for interstate trips. the one car i had with cruise control i used it a few times then forgot about it (to be fair it was a jeep of that era, so if i'd used it more, it would have broken)

            So it seems

If you own a car with cruise = you absolutely cannot do without it
If you own a car without it = you realise you actually don't

I use cruise all the time. I even have it in my trucks (standard) i do a lot of night driving and flick it on at every opertunity

              Same in my Amarok.

I don't have it on the Iload and really despise it for that fact.

old cars with carbs/cable throttle bodies arent too bad, as you can tune the pedal hardness with springs. then you can use it like a footrest. find a comfortable speed and sit your foot there. bit harder to do these days

I've never owned a car with cruise control, and have never used it on borrowed cars that DID have it! Sometimes my ankle gets a bit sore on longgggg trips, but the cruise option has never been important to me.

I reckon this also comes down to driving position, the Focus is spot on and the pedals at a nice ankle ratio, I would imagine at the Triton listed above is like sitting on a milk crate and tapping a guitar effects pedal.

if you drive a slow piece of shit with heaps of throttle lag with a weird pedal angle and bad seats i can see where that can get old quite quickly with cruise

a ferrari 458? maybe not so much

They have heaps of throttle lag?
I didn't think they were slow?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Also more relaxing to not be staring at the speedo the whole time for fear of being pinged on 1km/h over. (worse on tall geared cars where you don't hear the minor change in revs)

                            Comment

The people that say they don't need cruise control are the ones on the freeway who are constantly changing their speed +/- 10kmh so that those with cruise control and traveling at a constant speed have to overtake 15 times. You may think you don't need cruise but you fucking do.

This is the reason cruise is a "need" nowadays.
