12s in something that has teh crash worthiness of a paper bag...the fear was palpable

can't imagine there is much to learn about stuffing brakes and suspension into a bug - peeps have been racing/rallying/autocrossing these little arse-engined-slot cars since before you were born

how does the subie gearbag work (5 speeds in reverse?)

Subigears do a gearbox that bolts straight into the beetle now. Very neat solution and a brand new box isn't sky high in price, relatively speaking.

Why no Diesel? Lol. Really good effort, I love the extra detail building a motor, etc.

Hey Marty, regardless of your plans for it, when you've got those teething issues sorted one thing I found great all round was to get rid of the sloppy gearshift. Gene Berg enterpises have an excellent catalogue, and really great shifters - really solid and fast shifting action. Just makes them so much nicer to live with, and would be especially relevant at the strip or track.

The good thing about vw is every mod conceivable is available as a kit already sorted.
The bad thing about vw is the other owners. Don't spend too long with beetles lol
