Yeah is to do with eave heights and other rubbish cause it's a garage and limited to 35sqm without a DA or something. Will be challenging but hoist is the goal.

yeah our rules are something like 'less than 50 sqm total unapproved' under x height and not bordering any easments - so i needed a DA anyway - pretty much all they did was send letters to the neighbours and water/elec people.
This is a post i wrote by mistake, which is nice...

Can you get it passed under complying development? I was allowed 3.8m internal height no problems & could maybe have had more, the internal height is higher than the eaves; the building wasn't allowed over 4.5m in total, which meant slightly shallower slope on the roof itself, which therefore had to be aluminium rather than tiles but meh I wanted a hoist.
          Also 42sqm max shed on a block 450sqm to 599sqm, 60sqm max shed on a block 600sqm to ... 899sqm I think it was.

            Well done.

Looking forward to seeing you take it out for it's first run. Will make all this headfuckery well worth it.

Max outbuilding height 4.5m, max wall plate height 2.8m. Thinking 3 bay, 9m wide and 6 deep and enough internal height for hoist even if it's bonnet shut. Dunno if it's possible and council probly won't like it but my house is tiny so no dramas with lvr or deep soil areas etc. I think CDC is off the table it's going to be DA. Stormwater is probably my biggest issue. Got a draftsman on the case but he's a bit lazy with it.

Hey, regarding the 6m depth ... mine's 6m externally from front to back, which brings it to about 5.8m internally & it's not deep enough. It won't all be Miras in there ... ... even the Mk1 Escort could do with more room, but the Volvo 240 and the Commode are nearly touching the front wall in order to fit. Even a workmate's i30 felt a bit squeezy.
[Plus I was stupid & had the asymmetrical hoist installed so that the nose of the car was towards the rear wall, which is logical because that's the way you drive in, except I don't get the light from the open garage door]

If I were doing it again I'd make it at least 6.25m internally, if I could at all swing it (and OK admittedly in my case that wouldn't leave room on the block - but maybe Casa Di Marty has room).

My shed is just on 2.9x m to the fluro lights. Hoist is still very usable, with lots of time sitting on those little workshop chairs on wheels SCA sell. Bit of a pain trying to walk under and do stuff, but still 100 times better than lying on your back working on a car that's half a metre off the ground.

My trans jack still fits under and is usable etc, so that's good enough for me, although a vette is shorter than most cars. I could stack the ZD fairlane under it too and the current ba falcon with no issues, but stacking 2 normal cars might be an issue. I have a 4 post, so there is an extra 150mm lost due to the tracks. A 2 post is probably the same due to wheel droop.
I'm not straight outta Compton, I'm straight out the trailer.

Yeah this reason and a big tree that is in the way is making me lean towards moving the shed elsewhere in the yard. Balancing up decent shed size and also not taking up the entire yard.

Not sure what your budget is, we got our hoist from these guys down in Mossvale - http://superhoistplus.com/index.php?...&product_id=59

Best thing about it, even though the cables run along the ground there is still heaps of space to stick a gearbox jack under a RWD car.

Only shit thing is it weighs an absolute tonne, be prepared to enlist friends to help lift it or 1x Maori. A hammer drill is also handy for the bolt holes through the concrete. Dnegative rekd 3x pistol drills doing ours lol.
