      i was a bit surprised with going full manual on the auto. surely the zd30 patrols used a stand alone controller? or is the 4.5 auto not the re4r03a? (i think that's the model. 03a anyway) won't having to shift it manually get old fast? surely there'd be a way to keep normal auto operation and have the tranny live?

          he explains not using the 4.5 computer or buying a $$$$$ controller. there's a few nissans out there (even some diesels) which have a stand alone controller which only really requires a tps input from the engine, and there's a bolt on solution for that. this is assuming it's got the '03a trans. which the 4.5 may not. i'm just curious is all.

              I did mention that the previous job I did replacing a ZD30 with td42 would not operate properly even with the factory engine control ecu still operating. Spent a million hours on it for nothing. Others have done it with TB ecus and they don't shift at the right rpm and slurr shifts. Manual shifting is no big deal at all.

                Most factory auto ECUs are stupid with their shift points anyway, manual control is a better solution even if you could get the ECU to work properly.
