yeah, obviously... I don't care either way what other people do with their own cars. I was just responding to the idea you have to spend 20-30K to make an L series worth keeping. And you really don't. That 2.7 L series Z was as fast in a straight line as most of my 90s Jap imports - 200rwkw 180SX, RZ Supra, Soarer, Aristo etc.
Another good mate has a pair of highly bastardised 260Zs. One with NA Ford 6cyl power that's basically as fast as those 30K 3.1 L series jiggers for a tenth of the cost. He's also got a 500bhp atw RB25/30 Zed with a Ferrari GTO kit on it - safe to say he wouldn't be one of those Datsun community beardos favourite people! The NA one with half the power is a much better all round car imo. The RBed one is good for putting a stupid grin on your face but.
There's also a sweet yellow 260Z that's a regular at Mt Cotton hilclimb with a NA ITB'd RB as well. I guess that's sort of the halfway between old school NA and new school moderness.

yes, but Siddins Orange Z car used super soft slicks to do the same times at Lakeside. Nev defintely doesn't have a tyre advantage in that comparison, or driver advantage for that matter.

Mate's povo home built 2.7l L24 240Z ran 12.9 @ 105.7mph on puny 185/60x14 semi slicks about 20yrs ago. 1.82 60ft. No name brand parts, all OEM Datsun internals from various L series motors, home porting, triple 40mm Solex cars, reground Tighe 76 cam, 4.6diff. It has also run 60.6 at QR sprint, on 2nd hand semis. And ran reliably for many years of trashing at all sorts of events, always driven to and from the track, and totally streetable. You don't need to spend 20 or 30K to get a more than respectable performer.

so bout 50k to build the same 20 years later.... where's me cheque book !!
