Recording gear isn't cheap, either... I have a simple shoulder mount and some kit for DSLR's and that's already well into thousands.

Here's a PH article from when /drive (another A List youtube partner) went sub justifying it - obviously there's a bit of a difference because afaik MCM don't have a partner deal like /DRIVE did, so there's no 40% revenue share, but it's not as good as people make it out to be.
