You may have seen our post earlier in the week that the drag strip cancelled their wednesday night drags. It was unfortunate because we were scheduled to go down with Gramps to attempt our 11 second run.

About an hour after our post went live saying the event was cancelled, things started to get interesting…. an email arrived in our inbox: from the General Manager of Sydney Dragway!

“Sorry about cancelling tomorrow night, I’m a big fan of the show, and I was really looking forward to seeing how Gramps went so we’ve organised something for you guys. Give us a call” Turns out he’s been watching MCM since the beginning and is as keen as the rest of us to see if Gramps will run an 11. So what did he do about it?

Somewhat incredibly, today they have opened up the drag way for our personal use! Fully staffed and with emergency crew. And right at this very moment we’re sitting at the start of the strip about to go.

This means you will NOT have to wait a few more weeks for the next Gramps video!

So how about a massive LIKE for Race 4 Real at Sydney Dragway!
A massive LIKE for the MCM Community!
And finally; SMASH that freaking LIKE button for Gramps!

so it looks like you blokes like a bit of drag racing then? so much interest again!

today sydney drag way let me in for an hour, which was a freaking rad experience and reminded me why we got into this in the first place. To try make cars fast and then use them for their intended purpose.

Lots of talk about gramps and its intended uses so why don't i give you a run down of its uses this week.

Day 1: Had to pick up some pot plants for my olds from a gardening centre. Its gramps or mx5 and i hate seeing chooches drive around with crap sticking out the roof of their convertibles so i jammed another 20L jerry can of E85 in gramps and did the 80k round trip, no dramas.

Day 2: Mx5 has developed an exhaust leak from where the brace i put on was fouling the exhaust, sounds like a tractor. Had to pick up the nopics and get some food to make dinner. Took gramps, Went to shops, short shifted every gear and didn't get a single comment about the noise, rough ride or lack of interior - winning.

Day 3: Needed to do an oil change and also send off the current oil to get analysed for a later video. Stuck a 20L of e85 in and drove it to ichiban. Found a highway onramp. Goes good. Stole their hoist for 20 mins, oil looks well used but in decent condition, checked everything, all looks mint, nothing leaking. Drove home via United for 50L of e85 and refilled my jerrys. connected up my box trailer and took a load of green waste to the tip. Chopped some cars with trailer on the back. Goes good.

Day 4: (day of drags) Need to put in a retaining wall before the massive storm hits and washes away the neighbours house. Went to bunnings, got a few bags of concrete and steel posts, loaded up the interior less interior and checked out my mad rear winning-at-the-internet-stance job thanks to my mates at bunnings. Went on computer to get my daily dose of people telling me how i need to make more videos and that my mazda sucks, and saw that drags were cancelled. Facepalmed. Went outside and put more e85 in gramps.

Night 4: email goes bong, Sydney Dragway manager says he can pull some strings and get me an hour tomorrow morning, has watched the whole series. Air fisted the sky in excitement because
a: video won't be delayed,
b: internet will chill out
c: dragway to myself is bucket list type stuff
d: will be able to use my drone for epic shots.

Rang benny and said bring your gen1 legacy cause racing myself is shit and also he runs consistent mid to high 11's all day long in that thing (2L, big turbo, e85, 20+psi, stock engine and 5 speed.. )

Massive storm hit and washed all the dirt away from where the retaining wall is supposed to go. Realised i know jack shit about retaining walls but gotta have a go anyway. Can't make it with spanners or a 3D printer so i'm screwed.

Day 5: Put 20L of e85 in Gramps, loaded some gear and crew into gramps, found a highway onramp (goes good) cruised out to WSID and had a few go's at cracking 11's.


Thats where this story ends cause by this time tomorrow there will be a video on the whole thing and you can see the results for yourselves! thanks for not posting them up and ruining the surprise, its gonna be epic!
