The only thing more terrifying than 160 kmh in a Subaru Sherpa, is 120 kmh in a Morris marina on cross plys, around any corner.

    Sorry for the thread hijack.

All you cunts with your fancy-pants Japanese shitboxes... all I could afford when I was 18 was a mushroom grey Skoda Estelle 120L 5-speed (to quote the full badge) which caught fire one morning and was then abandoned in the front yard of my parents place (sorry, Mum) until the local newspaper deliveryman, who owned a red one, took pity on it and towed it away for parts... or scrap...

I did however have lots of fun inserting three concrete blocks in the front "boot" to try and tame the wayward handling... surprisingly effective.

What was it like in Checkoslakia in the 70's?

My first shitboxen was Japanese, A mighty Datto 1000 coupe.........far from fancy pants.

It was closely followed by a 4.1/4 speed TE Cortina.

          Don't mention the adBlocker !!

All this first car talk has me reminiscing. My first car was a modified VL Calais Turbo (back before every second swede owned one). Was pretty decent for an 18 year old in the mid to late 90s and I loved it! It had a 4" into 3.5" exhaust and the sound when it came on boost was so sweet. I remember taking it down to Bondi (as was done in those days) and it standing out as the majority of cars were old Falcons and Toranas, not an injected turbo to be seen when I was there.

It chopped all until I came across a black Evo lancer that blew my doors off on Syd Einfeld Drive late one night. Pretty sure that same Lancer was on the cover of Fast 4s not that long after. That one ran 10s...

Hard to believe but my VL was stolen... A VL stolen? Never! Sometimes I think it would be great to get another one to build up and relive my youth but stuffed if I would pay the current asking price for a crappy old VL!

I had a cordia turbo too. Many surprise lane changes, many top-speed runs, a number of turbos and a few 5th gear burnouts on grass with the handbrake on. Good times. Had it for 10 years!

With the above post though, why did Cordias never appreciate in value in any way? Will they ever? It seems (some) people have a soft spot for them, but were they just too shit to be desirable? Can FWD japboxes simply never become classics? See someone in a nice VL/starion/rotor and you think "cool, an enthusiast", but see a late 30s/early 40s guy in a cordia turbo and you'd avoid eye contact.

                Forum name change to PerformanceCordias.com

with all the cordia owners on here there is probably a chance a couple of you owned the same car

It's pretty hard to appreciate in value when you're a collection of parts and a rusting hulk in a paddock.

It'd simply be a lack of survivors I'd imagine. Early turbo technology plus P platers plus Mitsubishi = boom.

My dad had a Cordia Turbo when they were new. I remember it seemed pretty futuristic compared to almost everything else on the roads of NZ at the time. It was turbocharged and had a pretty cool looking digital dash. It was practically the same car as knight rider to us kids. 😅

I had a Gemini SLX, 4 speed manual with tinted windows. I didn’t know anyone else with tint, it was special in its own little way.

That thing looks like a hoot to drive. Many giggles were had.

Great Ep on the Mira Painting Marty.
I have zero experience with paint and panel so was good to see all the effort involved.
