Both cars have a startup flare and crackle on overrun so sound cool but there is just something about the V6. The Canadians get that motor in lots of the jags, particularly the AWD ones.

This thread needs more John Goss Group C XJS.

Gossy struggled with the development of this car, but apparently by Bathurst '84 he had it largely sorted. It was supposedly quick and some-what reliable. However, Gossy had managed to enlist Tom Walkinshaw as his co-driver that year. As the story goes, Tommy boy insisted on bringing his crew with him to run the car (TWR had already started running the XJS in Europe). On thing lead to another with Walkinshaw having the Group C machine fitted with some Group A bits they'd had brought with them which only lead to slowing the big cat down.

Check out Walkinshaw's Top Ten lap here - http://youtu.be/f8HzsV0Zq9I?t=1m44s

It all didn't matter away, because at the race start this happened... (skip to the 3 minute mark)

Definitely same family of engines though.
Not sure if this pic will load, but you can see the dead space front & rear of the bores, the V6 block is the same length as the V8.

I had forgotten how good that computer company name was -- I wonder if the registered name is available?

Don't most old V12 Jag engines run as V2/V4/V6/ Straight 6/ 3 on side, 5 on the other ....depending on how cold it is/ how many plug leads have given up the ghost?

I remember when they were first developing the AJ126 and we laughed that they suggested to omit the rear cylinders of the 133 and somewhere along the way we assumed it was just for PD. But then I found this which is meant to be a production 126 and it clearly shows where the rear big end pin should be-

It is quite a significant compromise to make to keep the modularity in the chassis and ancillaries. On the plus side AJ133 charger swaps into the F-Type V6 will be piece of piss in 20 years!

Wait what, your old man has an XK120? Awesome. Does he want to sell it to me cheap?

Yeah had it for 30 odd years.. been raced a few times but now just uses it to drive around town and for car club runs/rallys.
I don't think he'll ever sell it haha too much damn money and effort has gone into it.

Money well spent. It's worth an awful lot more today than it was 30 years ago.

Yep an XK120 was as good an investment as a house.

I do know of one that's a bitsa, and currently in bits, but could be interesting, see the bare alloy body in the top right of this pic?

There's also a steel chassis, 3.4 XK engine, and a build plate to go with it, but none of the numbers matching...

                                EDIT

Found another pic of the shell, and you can see the chassis next to it.

And you can take your pick of engines....
